We are currently seeking an Jr. Fluid Power Designer to work out of our office in Belleville, Ontario.

Through our brands: Hose Technology, Multi-Flow Solutions and Hetronic Canada, we are able to offer solutions to Original Equipment Manufactures, distributors, aftermarket sales and end users. Our reputation was built in fluid conveyance, and this has since extended to fluid power and controls.

Our fluid conveyance offering ranges from end user hose replacements right through to full hydraulic conveyance kitting for some of North America’s largest OEMs. We also offer full hydraulic system servicing, both on site and in our shop. Our engineering department can help with the smallest of requests right up to designing and building large power units. Our drive to sell and service the best brands in the world has established our relationship with Hetronic Radio Remotes, by being Hetronic Canada, our clients can now lean on the UMI Group for support in radio remotes and electrical controls.

The Jr. Fluid Power Designer role supports the design, drafting, documentation, and development of fluid power systems and related mechanical components. Working under the guidance of senior designers, engineers, and other technical team members, this position assists with creating models, drawings, schematics, bills of materials, and technical packages for hydraulic and fluid conveyance projects. The role is suited to an individual who is developing their technical design skills, has a strong interest in hydraulic systems, and is eager to learn through hands-on project support, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities:

Use SolidWorks, DraftSight, PDM, and other applicable software to support design, drafting, and documentation tasks.
Assist with the preparation of models, layouts, detailed drawings, schematics, and bills of materials for fluid power systems, components, and subassemblies.
Support senior designers and engineers in developing hydraulic and fluid conveyance design solutions that consider application requirements, manufacturability, quality, and safety.
Complete Fluid Conveyance routing and design hydraulic manifolds
Assist in hydraulic power unit design, including weldment and hydraulic tank design
Learn and apply mobile and industrial hydraulic standards
Support project deliverables within assigned scope, budget, and schedule while following applicable industry standards and company procedures.
Assist with prototype builds, testing, validation activities, and review of results under the direction of senior technical staff.
Provide support during the build process to help ensure design specifications and documentation requirements are met.
Apply and continue developing knowledge of fluid conveyance standards, hydraulic valves, motors, pumps, fittings, hoses, and related components.
Travel to customer sites, factories, or other locations as required to support measurements, information gathering, and field service activities.
All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Post-secondary education, training, or related experience in mechanical design, fluid power, mechanical engineering technology, or a related discipline.
Working knowledge of computer-aided design software such as DraftSight, SolidWorks, and PDM; willingness to further develop CAD and design documentation skills.
Basic understanding of hydraulic systems, fluid conveyance components, mechanical assemblies, and technical drawings is considered an asset.
Strong attention to detail, organization, problem-solving ability, and willingness to learn in a technical environment.
Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently on assigned tasks while seeking guidance when needed.
Ability to work in a team environment and actively participate in group meetings.
Ensure that all business activities are performed with the highest ethical standards.
Maintain good corporate citizen role in support of the UMI Group vision.
