JOB SUMMARY: The Biostatistician Reports to and works under the direction and supervision of the Senior Manager of Population Health Data and receives strategic advice from the Community Health Survey Advisory Group.
Contract until March 31, 2027

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master's degree in Biostatistics, Statistics, Epidemiology, Public Health, Data Science, Health Analytics, or related quantitative discipline.
- Minimum two (2) years of experience managing, analyzing, and interpreting health, survey, research, administrative, or population-level data.
- Demonstrated ability to independently manage projects, establish priorities, meet deadlines, and complete work with minimal supervision.
- Advanced proficiency with R, SAS, SPSS, Stata, Python, or equivalent.
- Strong written, verbal, presentation, and data visualization skills.

POSITION DESCRIPTION – DATA ANALYTICS & INSIGHTS
POSITION TITLE: Biostatistician-Community Health Survey (6-7 Month Contract)
Reports to and works under the direction and supervision of the Senior Manager of Population Health Data and receives strategic advice from the Community Health Survey Advisory Group.
PURPOSE AND SCOPE OF THE POSITION:
The Biostatistician is responsible for supporting the management, analysis, interpretation, and reporting of Community Health Survey (CHS) data. Working independently under the direction of the Senior Manager of Population Health Data, the Biostatistician applies statistical methods to ensure survey data are accurate, reliable, meaningful, and useful for identifying health trends and determinants of health within the Six Nations of the Grand River community. Advanced statistical modelling, survey weighting, and complex survey analyses may be undertaken where appropriate and feasible within project timelines. Key deliverables include analytic datasets, statistical reports, community health indicators, presentations, data visualizations, and survey findings summaries.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- TECHNICAL (STATISTICAL ANALYSIS, DATA MANAGEMENT & REPORTING)
- Clean, validate, manage, and quality-check Community Health Survey datasets.
- Conduct statistical analyses to identify community health trends and determinants of health.
- Prepare analytic datasets, data dictionaries, coding documentation, and reproducible analytical workflows.
- Produce community health indicators and statistical summaries.
- Create tables, charts, dashboards, data visualizations, and written reports that clearly communicate findings.
- Provide statistical guidance regarding indicator development, data interpretation, and reporting.
- Where appropriate, contribute advanced analyses such as regression modelling, survey weighting methodologies, and other specialized quantitative approaches.
- Support & maintain privacy, confidentiality, OCAP principles, and ethical handling of community health data throughout the project and follow Six Nations Data Governance; Data Privacy & Security; and Data Management Policies
- Maintain analytic documentation, data files, and project timelines.
- Prepare regular status updates and reporting timelines for the Senior Manager of Population Health Data.
- Identify technical resources required for data management, analysis, reporting, and secure storage.
- Maintain research records and files in accordance with organizational policies and project protocols.
- Demonstrate strong organizational skills, accuracy, and attention to detail.
- Report and document any concerns, risks, or reportable incidents that occur to the Senior Manager of Population Health Data.
- Communicates analysis progress, issues, and emerging findings regularly with the Senior Manager of Population Health Data.
- Translates statistical results into plain-language summaries for project staff, leadership, community and community partners, and other stakeholders.
- Communicates updates to the project team on analytic timelines, data requirements, and interpretation of results.
- Maintains effective collaboration with project staff and partners to support appropriate use of community health data.
- Will be required to perform other job-related duties as requested for the scope of the role
- Provide support to the Six Nations Emergency Response Plan by ensuring awareness of the plan and assistance as instructed by the Executive Director of Data Analytics & Insights
- It is the responsibility of the employee to be aware of and adhere to all policies and procedures, including those that related to client safety, staff safety and risk management
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work requires sustained attention to detail, accuracy, confidentiality, and deadlines. The role involves extensive computer-based data work, collaboration with project staff and partners, and occasional flexibility in hours to meet project timelines. Work at times may be subject to weekend or evening hours. All work is in-person.

Receives direction, guidance, and priorities; discusses analytic plans, data quality, timelines, findings, and reporting requirements regarding all phases of the CHS.

STATEMENT OF QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Requirements:
- Master's degree in Biostatistics, Statistics, Epidemiology, Public Health, Data Science, Health Analytics, or related quantitative discipline.

Other Related Skills:
- Experience working with Indigenous communities, organizations, or health initiatives.
- Knowledge of Indigenous Social Determinants of Health.
- OCAP Certification and understanding of Indigenous data governance approaches.
- Knowledge of the Six Nations of the Grand River community and culture.
- TCPS2 certification.
- Experience conducting survey weighting or complex survey analyses.
- Experience with Power BI, NVivo, or ArcGIS.
- Must pass a criminal records check
IMPACT OF ERROR:
Errors in judgement and in the conduct of duties could lead to loss of credibility, poor public relations, confusion, duplication of effort and misinformation being given to the Senior Manager of Population Health Data, the Executive Director of Data Analytics & Insights Committees, Six Nations of the Grand River Elected Council, Government Agencies, and the public.

Guiding principles set by the Executive Director of Data Analytics & Insights, the administrative policies, procedures established by the Six Nations of the Grand River Elected Council and other legislation provided by the respective government agencies.
