Canada West Veterinary Specialists (CWVS), a privately owned and operated, multi-disciplinary emergency and specialty hospital is looking for an exceptional Veterinary Technologist (VT) graduate to join our newly established Cardiology department. Our goal is to build a service that delivers high-level, progressive cardiology care.
The first veterinary specialty hospital in Metro Vancouver, CWVS is a state-of-the-art Level VECCS level 1 and VetCOT Trauma centre certified facility. We have 30+ veterinarians in the following disciplines: emergency and critical care, surgery, neurology, radiology, internal medicine, oncology, and cardiology. In addition to a rehabilitation department, 6 ORs, 2 isolation wards, and a newly redesigned ER, ICU, and Wards, we are equipped with 2 digital radiology suites, a CT, and a 1.5T MRI.
We are seeking a candidate who is equally passionate about veterinary medicine, committed to continuous learning and professional growth, and takes pride in providing patient-focused, client-centered care. Training will be provided; however, the ideal candidate should be motivated to develop new and advanced skills.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
- Develops a strong understanding of Cardiology procedures, protocols, medications, and equipment, ensuring safe and effective use
- Communicates clearly and efficiently with clients, referring veterinarians, and internal teams
- Obtains and relays detailed patient histories to the cardiologist
- Maintains accurate, timely patient records, treatments, and procedures in Ezyvet and SmartFlow
- Ensures effective patient handovers and communication with Wards and ICU teams
- Prepares, calculates, and administers medications as directed by the cardiologist
- Supports equipment maintenance and documentation
- Maintains clean, organized work and procedure areas
- Coordinates team workflow, including breaks and task delegation to Patient Care Assistants
- Monitors and maintains adequate inventory levels
- Keeps Standard Operating Procedures accurate and up to date
- Performs other duties as required
You can look forward to utilizing and developing the following skills:
- Administering IV, IM, SQ, and oral medications
- Perform venipunctures and artery puncture using patients’ cephalic, saphenous, and jugular veins
- Ability to identify catheters commonly used for interventional techniques and cardia catheterization
- Monitoring telemetry and performing 6 and 10 lead ECGs
- Recognize common arrhythmias including SVT, Atrial fibrillation, VPCs (versus bundle branch block), V-tach, sinus arrhythmia, sinus arrest, and various forms of AV block
- Performing more advanced techniques, such as transesophageal echocardiography (under supervision), among others interventional procedures
Scheduling: 4, 10-hour shifts between Monday to Friday. Travel for initial training may be required.
