Position Summary
Reporting to the Manager, Financial Reporting, the Senior Business (Financial) Analyst is a key member of a high-performing, fast-paced finance team supporting the Hospital, its Foundation, and leadership teams. This role provides advanced financial expertise, strategic insights, and decision support through budgeting, forecasting, financial modeling, and in-depth analysis.
The Senior Financial Analyst acts as a trusted advisor to operational leaders, driving financial transparency, strengthening controls, and enhancing reporting processes to support organizational goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and support annual budgeting, quarterly forecasting, and long-range financial planning processes
- Partner closely with Hospital leadership to provide strategic financial analysis, insights, and decision support
- Prepare and present monthly and quarterly financial reporting packages, including detailed variance analysis and commentary
- Develop, maintain, and enhance complex financial models to support business cases, cost-benefit analysis, and “what-if” scenarios
- Collaborate with Finance leadership and cross-functional teams (Data & Analytics, Clinical Informatics) to ensure alignment of financial and operational data
- Evaluate and provide financial oversight for business cases, projects, and strategic initiatives
- Ensure integrity and accuracy of general ledger structures, financial reporting systems, and budgeting tools
- Lead and support process improvements, internal controls, and best practices to strengthen financial reporting and compliance
- Ensure compliance with MIS/OHRS guidelines, CICA Handbook, and applicable government regulations
- Perform and/or review monthly account reconciliations to ensure completeness and accuracy
- Support accurate and timely monthly and annual financial statements and reporting deliverables
- Assist in the implementation and optimization of financial systems and analytical tools (e.g., Power BI, modeling software)
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior team members, fostering knowledge sharing and continuous improvement
- Participate in special projects and ad hoc financial analysis as required
Qualifications & Experience
- Undergraduate degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field
- Active CPA designation required
- Minimum 5+ years of progressive experience, with demonstrated growth in financial analysis and reporting responsibilities
- Strong experience in financial statement preparation, analysis, and auditing environments
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial systems (ERP, reporting tools)
- Experience with MIS Standards and Ontario Healthcare Reporting System (OHRS) preferred
- Experience in a healthcare environment is an asset
- Familiarity with Meditech HCIS and Power BI considered an asset
