Quality Statement
The QA Team Lead is a key representative of the Quality organization and must balance operational support with independent quality oversight. The role must be willing to place product, consumer safety, and regulatory compliance ahead of production expediency.
Position Summary
The Quality Assurance (QA) Team Lead supervises QA Technicians working on the production floor and ensures that manufacturing, testing, packaging, and documentation activities comply with the applicable Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), company procedures, and cannabis regulations. This role provides day-to-day quality oversight while managing key quality programs, including calibration, complaints, environmental monitoring, packaging component specifications and label approval.
Roles and Responsibilities
Leadership and Strategy:
- Lead, train and schedule QA Technicians assigned to production, packaging and related manufacturing areas.
- In conjunction with Manager Quality Assurance, assign daily QA activities, monitor workload and adjust priorities to support production requirements without compromising quality.
- Verify that QA floor inspections, line clearances, in-process checks, and production documentation are completed accurately and on schedule.
- Promote strict adherence to GMP requirements, sanitation procedures, data-integrity expectations, and controlled-document practices.
- Identify opportunities to improve QA processes, technician training, documentation quality, and production floor compliance.
- Foster a culture of compliance, quality excellence and continuous improvement.
Regulatory Compliance & Quality Systems:
- Assist with investigations into deviations, non-conformances, out-of-specification results, complaints, and product-quality concerns.
- Review supporting documentation and ensure corrective and preventive actions are assigned, completed, and properly documented.
Calibration Program:
- Maintain the calibration program, including equipment inventory, calibration schedules, certificates, due-date tracking, status labeling, and out-of-tolerance assessments.
- Ensure that measuring and monitoring equipment is suitable for use, uniquely identified, protected from unauthorized adjustments, and removed from service when required.
- Support continuous improvement of the Quality Management System to maintain compliance and audit-readiness.
Complaint Program:
- Manage the product-quality complaint program by receiving, documenting, assessing, routing, tracking and trending complaints through investigation and closure.
- Ensure complaint records include appropriate product, lot, customer, investigation, corrective-action, and regulatory-reporting information.
Environmental Monitoring (EM):
- In conjunction with QA Supervisor, execute the environmental monitoring program, including air, surfaces and water sampling schedules, locations, results, trending, excursions, investigations, and documentation.
- Identify adverse trends and notify Quality and production leadership of significant environmental conditions or recurring issues.
- Ensure EM activities meet internal specifications, GPP/GMP expectations, and export-market requirements.
Packaging Component Specifications:
- Create and maintain packaging-component specifications, including requirements for materials, dimensions, artwork, print quality, functional characteristics, regulatory information, and acceptance criteria.
Labels:
- Review and approve incoming master labels and support approval of internally printed labels.
Equipment Qualification & Process Validation:
- Support QA Supervisor with equipment qualifications, process and cleaning validation activities to ensure consistent and compliant manufacturing operations.
Audit & Inspection Support:
- Support internal auditing requirements.
- Support the implementation and follow‑up of post-audit corrective and preventive actions.
- Support external audits as required.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in quality, Life Sciences, Chemistry, Microbiology, Manufacturing, or a related discipline preferred; equivalent regulated-manufacturing experience may be considered.
- Three or more years of experience in QA, quality control, or regulated cannabis, pharmaceutical, food, beverage, nutraceutical, or medical-device manufacturing.
- Working knowledge of GMP principles, quality systems, sanitation, controlled documents, investigations, CAPA, and audit readiness.
- Formal training in GMP, HACCP, root-cause analysis, or quality risk management.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to interpret manufacturing records, technical documents, specifications, and regulatory requirements.
- Proven ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to document investigations and train personnel.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and electronic quality-management or manufacturing systems.
- Ability to work in a production environment and follow applicable safety, security, confidentiality, and cannabis-compliance requirements.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally.
Preferred Experience
- Experience in a GMP-regulated cannabis manufacturing facility.
- Experience with performing environmental monitoring and evaluation of results.
- Previous experience with aseptic techniques, microbial plating and incubation.
- Experience with cannabis packaging, labeling, tracking, and regulatory requirements.
- Experience authoring SOPs, work instructions, specifications, or training materials.
- Experience with electronic batch records or electronic quality-management systems.
- Experience managing or supporting equipment calibration, environmental monitoring, product complaints, packaging specifications, and label-control processes.
- Previous experience supervising and coordinating the work of QA or production personnel.
- Experience conducting internal audits.

Physical and Environmental Requirements
- The position requires regular presence on the production floor, including extended periods of standing and walking.
- The employee may be required to lift or move items of moderate weight, work around manufacturing equipment, wear designated personal protective equipment and work varying shifts according to production needs.
- The employee must be willing to work in environments that include exposure to bright lights, chemicals, dust, odors and extreme temperatures.
