Job Purpose:

Reporting to the Supervising Lawyer, the commercial legal assistant is responsible for the day- to-day commercial lending transactions matters and general commercial transactions. This may include asset purchases, commercial leasing, review of loan agreements, conducting searches, preparing mortgages, security agreements, and other required file administration pertaining to their specialization. Other duties include but are not limited to, billing, file opening, document administration, and any additional office functions or projects assigned.

Key Responsibilities:

Maintain a complete and in-depth understanding of procedural law in matters relating to commercial lending, asset purchases and commercial leases.
Preparation of documentation for commercial lending, asset purchases and commercial leases while also completing all due diligence searches and reviewing documentation required to complete transaction as assigned.
Preparation, registration and completion of commercial lending transactions for lenders.
Maintaining time entry, billing system, account receivables and expense processes.
Responsible for managing client/file and information and setting up organizational systems to manage the information on files.
Maintaining calendar key dates, bring-forward systems, and scheduling meetings.
General support with legal administrative tasks.

Requirements:

A Legal Assistant or Paralegal certificate or diploma, or a combination of relevant skills and experience, is required.
4+ years of paralegal experience in commercial lending work.
Good verbal and written communication skills.
Excellent working knowledge of LTSA, Property Personal and Corporate registries.
Strong attention to detail and ability to work with confidential information.
High attention to detail and time management skills are required.
Experience with a document management system, Avvoka and Aderant is an asset.
