Job description:
We are seeking a committed and skilled English/Literacy Teacher for Elementary & Middle School. This role is highly important because strong language, communication, reading, and writing skills are foundational for student success in every subject, especially in a values-based and faith-conscious school environment.
We are looking for someone who can teach English with academic excellence while also understanding the importance of identity, character, respectful communication, and Islamic values in student development.
Key Responsibilities
The teacher will be responsible for:
- Teaching English/Literacy to Middle School and High School students.
- Supporting students in reading comprehension, essay writing, grammar, vocabulary, oral communication, media literacy, and critical thinking.
- Preparing students for Ontario curriculum expectations and OSSD requirements.
- Supporting high school English credit courses, including proper planning, assessment, documentation, and reporting.
- Helping students improve academic writing for all subject areas, not only English.
- Supporting students who may need ESL/ELL language development.
- Creating lesson plans, assessments, rubrics, and student progress documentation.
- Maintaining proper records for student learning, assessment evidence, and report card comments.
- Understanding or being willing to learn Ontario high school expectations, including OSSD, course codes, credit requirements, AOL/ASL/ELL-related supports, and assessment practices.
- Communicating professionally with administration, students, and parents when needed.
- Helping build a strong culture of literacy, confidence, discipline, adab, and respectful communication.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate should have:
- Strong English teaching experience, especially in middle school and/or high school.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong documentation skills.
- Understanding of Ontario curriculum and OSSD requirements, or willingness to learn quickly.
- Experience with ESL/ELL learners is an asset.
- Ability to create structured lesson plans, assessments, rubrics, and progress reports.
- Strong classroom management skills.
- A professional, values-aligned approach to education.
- Respect for Islamic school culture and the ability to support students with care, discipline, and purpose.
- OCT certification is an asset, but strong experience and documentation ability will also be considered.
Why This Role Matters
English is not only a subject. It is the foundation for how students think, express themselves, understand knowledge, communicate respectfully, and succeed in their future studies. A strong English teacher will help students build confidence in writing, speaking, reading, and critical thinking while staying grounded in values, identity, and purpose.
