Accountabilities:
The incumbent may perform all, some, or similar duties to the listed below:
Community & Family Services:
- Responsible for the overall operations of the Community Garden Program including planning, planting, tending and harvesting.
- Create and promote educational opportunities surrounding gardening, the use of the community garden and other food literacy topics.
- Head up the collection, rotation and usage of Food Reclamation Program. Work to expand the program to other grocers/food related businesses in the area.
- Distribute food assistance through the Food Bank as per current operational policies.
- Organise and supervise receipt of food donations, recording, tidiness and safety of all areas used.
- Organise and help to maintain the cleanliness of all areas used by the Community and Family Services, and other areas.
- Under the direction of the Community Ministries Director, assist with the delivery and creation of new programs and services in the community as identified.
- Network with referral agencies and/or other community sources of assistance, as required
- Provide Emergency Disaster Services as part of a team.
Administration:
- Input data into Second Harvest in a timely manner.
- Maintain confidentiality and keep accurate participant files and statistical records.
- Conduct all administrative duties as outlined with due diligence.
- Follow direction on the compliance and adherence to Operating Policies and Procedures (i.e. gift cards, vouchers etc.)
- Ability to tell the Ministry Units story through Social Media platforms.
CRITICAL RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT
Clarification of Information. Conducts Routine Interactions .
Internal: MU’s leadership and staff, donors, volunteers
External: Community groups and agencies
MANAGERIAL RESPONSIBILITY:
- Reports directly to: Community Ministries Director
- Direct reports: none but gives direction to volunteers
FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT:
- Minor material responsibility.
- Handles petty cash.
- Uses or maintains organization assets in accordance with established guidelines.
- Does not process any financial transactions with no budget responsibilities.

Working Conditions:
- Some work is outside in the garden, may be exposed to elements, dirt, plants, & insects. May work in heat/sun.
- Aware of traffic and surroundings is required.
- Work in the office, food bank and warehouse in generally agreeable conditions.
- Work in food bank and warehouse, will be exposed to reclaimed foods in various states. Will need to sort through and distribute, store, and dispose of foods as needed.
- Travel and work within and outside the community.
- Periodic travel away for trainings may be required.
- Able to work flexible hours to deliver programs.
- Able to safely lift up to 30 pounds.
Education, Experience, AND Qualifications:
- Willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
- Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
- Ability to provide an original copy of a Background Check that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required, including Child Check (if appropriate).
Education, Qualifications and Certifications:
- Completion of High School
- Current and valid Manitoba Class “5” Driver’s license and current driver’s abstract acceptable to The Salvation Army.
- Own vehicle available for business use.
Food Safe Certification is an asset.

Skills and Capabilities:
- Represent the organization in a positive, professional, and engaging manner.
- Experience in office administration, computers and database entry
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software
- Must be able to establish good working relationships with community partners
- Able to work in a consultative, diplomatic and tactful manner
- Ability to maintain information in confidence and exercise good judgement
- Exhibit good listening and interpersonal skills, have strong oral/written communication skills.
- Understanding of individuals of diverse social and cultural backgrounds.
- Good team player.
- Good oral and writing skills.
Compensation:
The target hiring range for this position is $16.00 to $19.89 with a maximum of $23.86.
Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
