Product Designer - Custom Truck Bodies & Equipment
A Product Designer at ORO Design & Manufacturing Ltd. is responsible for supporting the development of custom truck bodies and innovative mobile equipment products. They work at all stages of the product development process, from conceptualization and design to documentation and production. The role's primary focus is to enhance existing products and develop new ones through design and drafting tasks. In addition to these tasks, the Product Designer is responsible for maintaining engineering data in the ERP system, providing technical support to the production team, and assisting in designing and implementing new production processes and equipment.
Ideal candidates will have at least three years of formal design experience, be familiar with welding and sheet metal fabrication, and must have proficiency in 3D CAD modelling software such as Solidworks or Inventor.
This position is based on-site at Oro Design & Manufacturing, requiring the candidate to work in person. Applicants should have reliable transportation for consistent commute to and from the workplace.
Job Duties
- Design and develop innovative solutions for custom truck bodies and mobile equipment, utilizing CAD software for detailed drafting and product modeling.
- Prepare comprehensive documentation, including design specifications, manufacturing drawings, assembly instructions, user manuals, and maintenance guides.
- Engage in problem-solving activities during product development phases, addressing technical challenges and proposing effective solutions.
- Process change orders on existing designs
- Maintain BOMs and other information in an ERP database
- Establish methods to meet work schedules and co-ocoordinating activities with other departments
- Identify, recommend, and implement process improvements
- Consistently uphold and comply with our established in-house documentation review and approval procedures.
- Ensure standards for safe working conditions are observed
Employment Requirements
- Completion of a postsecondary program in engineering, engineering technology, industrial design, or related fields is required.
- 3 or more years of experience in a mechanical design (weldments, assemblies, sheet metal) role doing design and drafting.

- Knowledge of drafting and design best practices
- Proficient with Autodesk Inventor (training available on use of Autodesk Vault PLM)
- Experience with designing of products using various manufacturing processes including forming, welding, machining, and assembly
- In-depth knowledge of welding theory and applications
- Desire to solve problems and continuously improve manufacturing processes
- Knowledge of document control processes, and collaboratively working on documents in a server based environment
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $22.00-$32.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
