ARCHER CRM is now recruiting for full time Junior Geomatician to be based out of our Prince George office (with the possibility of being based out of Fort St John depending on circumstances) to carry out and assist with day-to-day spatial field data collection and coordination; as well as, office based geomatics tasks. We are looking for applicants who are detail orientated, comfortable with field work, and are willing to work away from home in a field camp setting as needed. Job Description
Primary Responsibility: To work with a supportive and collaborative team in the production and maintenance of all day-to-day and special contract-based GIS needs and activities within the organization; as well as, the accurate collection and quality control of field GIS data in support of archaeological field investigations, and under the supervision of both Supervising Archaeologists and Senior Geomaticians.
Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- General map and archaeological site map production for fieldwork and reporting within QGIS;
- Spatial GIS data preparation, transfer and maintenance to support permit requirements and archaeological fieldwork;
- Field spatial data collection of terrain features, investigation patterns and archaeological features;
- Digitize, update and maintain spatial databases following strict quality management requirements;
- Co-ordinate with Project Lead Archaeologist (s) and Report Writers to satisfy client needs.
Preference given to those with the following skills/experience:
- 1- 3 years experience (with a proven and positive track record) as a Geomatician, Field Survey experience is an asset;
- Experience using QGIS desktop and PostGIS databases;
- Drone license and experience;
- Knowledge of field data collection technology (Mergin Maps, Avenza, Trimble Terraflex or other similar solutions);
- Practical experience using Trimble technology and GNSS receivers (Trimble TDC600, R1, Total Station, Trimble Catalyst);
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Professional suite;
- The ability to meet deadlines, follow direction, work independently with minimal guidance and work in a team environment.
Requirements:
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License;
- Ability to independently travel to and from the worksite location daily;
- Canadian Citizen, or legally eligible to work in Canada for a minimum of 2 years as of the date of application;
- Undergraduate degree or technical diploma in GIS or Geography, or equivalent GIS experience;
- Demonstrate cartographic and ArcGIS experience/abilities.
