The Role
The Senior Bookkeeper position is a critical role within our firm responsible for ensuring our clients receive the high-quality service they have come to expect and deserve from our team. This is accomplished through service to clients, mentorship of teammates and supporting the strategic initiatives of the firm.

Responsibilities

Lead and mentor bookkeepers by:

ensuring high standards of all bookkeeping tasks while communicating with staff on best practices and recommending changes to leadership where necessary to improve efficiencies and time allocations
using previous experience and expertise to facilitate training for new/existing team members to help them better understand bookkeeping/accounting principles
keeping acquainted on any changes to systems and mentor other staff on these changes
providing support to all staff by being the first point of contact for questions regarding standards of practice and problem solving
work independently with all staff and corresponding client files to provide regular audit checks to address issues or concerns and answer questions

Support leadership through:

assisting with client onboarding
spearheading constant improvement and quality of service and delivery of products to clients through process creation, execution and bookkeeper training
Working closely with leadership team in setting and modeling a standard for the high level of service expected from the ProFit team
Attending seminars/conferences as needed for professional growth and to bring knowledge back to the team

General bookkeeping duties include:

Accurate and timely management of all bookkeeping tasks for assigned clients that may include: maintaining accurate financial records, managing accounts payable and receivable, payroll, source deductions and GST remittance and ensuring timely reconciliation of accounts
Maintain positive relationships with assigned clients as the main point of contact between ProFit and the client
Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards in financial reporting
Collaborate internally with teammates to share knowledge and skills as well as external collaboration with clients and their representatives to provide financial insights and support

Note: The candidate will require reliable transportation to be able to work in-person at the ProFit office as well as visit client offices within the Edmonton area.

Attributes of the Ideal Candidate

5+ Years of bookkeeping/accounting experience is required, ideally in different business industries
Bookkeeping/accounting certification, diploma or degree is preferred
Exceptional organizational and communications skills
Proven record of building and maintaining professional interpersonal relationships with staff and clients
A passion for developing staff and cultivating a positive learning environment
Experience in handling multiple clients while maintaining availability to coach and mentor teammates
A strong interest in professional development and growth
Leadership or supervisory experience is preferred

Program knowledge and experience:

Payment gateways including Shopify, Square, PayPal, Stripe, Bambora, Moneris, Plooto
Accounting Software including QuickBooks Online, Sage, Netsuite
Dext, Jobber, etc
