About the Role

We are a national distributor of ethnic and international food brands across Canada. Our business spans multiple cultures, regions, and supplier markets. As we grow, disciplined and transparent buying practices are essential to protecting margins, managing inventory risk, and supporting long-term partnerships.

We are hiring a Assistant Category Buyer/Category Buyer to manage purchase planning and execution for assigned categories. This role is well-suited to someone who values clear expectations, structured decision-making, and working with data and systems. We provide defined processes, tools, and support to help you succeed.

What You’ll Be Responsible For

Plan and execute purchases based on approved forecasts, inventory targets, and lead times
Use systems to guide buying decisions
Follow defined approval workflows and document assumptions and decisions clearly
Monitor inventory levels, cover, and expiry risk; adjust plans in a timely and structured way
Support SKU rationalization and assortment decisions with data and analysis
Track pricing, landed cost, and margin impacts; escalate issues with clear facts
Work cross-functionally with Sales, Supply Chain, and Finance using shared data and reports
Maintain accurate records to support reviews, audits, and continuous improvement

Inventory is well-balanced with minimal overstock and expiry risk
Buying decisions are consistent, explainable, and aligned with forecasts
Issues are identified early and addressed calmly using data
Processes are followed and improved over time
Stakeholders trust the buying function because it is fair, disciplined, and predictable

Experience & Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, Finance, or a related field
3–6 years of experience in buying, planning, inventory management, or supply chain roles
Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
Experience working with ERP or planning systems (training provided where needed)
Ability to work full-time from our Burnaby Head Office
