Musora's five platforms, Drumeo, Pianote, Guitareo, Singeo and PlayBass, teach people around the world to play an instrument. Almost all of it is in English. We want a drummer in Bogotá or a pianist in Berlin to open our app and find lessons, menus, search, checkout and support emails in their own language, and we want the first new language to teach us how to add the next ones.
Hi, I'm Caleb Favor, the Chief Technical Officer at Musora Media, and we're hiring a full-stack engineer to make that happen. You'll be the first team member whose primary focus is localization, and you'll work across every codebase we have: a Vue web app, a React Native mobile app, a Laravel backend, marketing sites, a Shopify checkout and a Sanity catalogue of tens of thousands of lessons. Some of the work is deep, like locale handling in the API, delivering translations to mobile without an app store release, or making search work in a new language. Some of it is a long tail of strings, screens and templates that need to be extracted and wired up. We expect you to use AI coding tools for the long tail and your judgement for the rest.
You'll report to the CTO, work alongside the frontend, mobile and backend leads, and spend a lot of time with the publishing, marketing and support teams who own the words. If you've localized a product before and know where it goes wrong, we'd like to hear from you.
Important Notes:
-
To ensure you’re viewing the most accurate and up-to-date job opportunities, please apply directly through our official website or through our trusted third-party sites (Indeed, Monster, Glassdoor, LinkedIn, Talent.com & Ziprecruiter).
-
We don’t use AI to screen applications. So if you put real thought into your submission (and avoid generic, AI-generated responses), it will absolutely stand out!
-
A cover letter is welcome, but not required.
-
Add internationalization to our Vue web app, React Native mobile app and Laravel backend. This covers locale detection, user language preference, language switching, fallbacks to English, and how translated text is stored and delivered.
-
Move hardcoded English text into translation files across all three codebases, including API messages and transactional emails.
-
Set up an automated translation pipeline so new strings are translated when code is merged, with a glossary for music terminology and a do-not-translate list for song titles and brand names.
-
Lesson titles, descriptions and other structured content live in our CMS. Translate them at a scale of tens of thousands of documents.
-
Bring the marketing pages into new languages with correct international SEO, and carry the customer's language through the Shopify checkout, order emails and subscription management.
-
Localize the video player menus and set up language-specific search indices.
-
Add CI checks so new features cannot ship with untranslated text, and catch layout problems from longer text before release.
-
Share one translation catalogue between web and mobile, and use standard pluralization and message formatting in both.
-
Own the checklist for launching a language, arrange native-speaker review of billing and pricing copy, and write short guides for engineers and marketers on working with translated text.
-
Demonstrated ability to exemplify the company's core values: Empathy, Passion and Grit.
-
3+ years of professional full-stack development, with production experience in at least two of: Vue.js or React, React Native, and Laravel or another modern server-side framework.
-
You have shipped internationalization in production and know the details: i18n libraries, locale resolution, pluralization, message formatting, and layouts that break when text gets longer.
-
You have worked with translation tooling such as string extraction, translation memory and machine translation with human review.
-
Strong JavaScript and TypeScript, solid PHP, and comfortable with SQL and CI pipelines.
-
You can run a multi-team project: plan it, sequence it and report progress against milestones.
-
You write clearly and communicate proactively in an asynchronous team.
-
Reliable internet connection
-
Proficiency in the English language (written and verbal)
-
Ability to exhibit the Company's Core Values: Empathy, Passion, and Grit.
-
You have taken a product from one language to several.
-
Experience with a headless CMS (we use Sanity) and with international SEO.
-
Experience with translation management platforms or LLM-based translation with glossaries.
-
Experience with Shopify internationalization or subscription commerce.
-
You read a second language.
-
You play an instrument.
-
Web: Vue 3, TypeScript, Vite. Mobile: React Native, Expo. Backend: Laravel, PHP 8, MySQL, Redis, AWS.
-
Content and search: Sanity, Algolia. Video: Bitmovin. Commerce: Shopify. Edge: Cloudflare Workers.
-
Tooling: Docker, GitHub, GitHub Actions, Playwright, and AI coding tools, which we pay for and use daily.
