Native Plant Nursery – Nursery hand / Shipper
Job Summary
NATS Nursery is seeking another valued team member for our Shipping Department. Located in Langley, BC, NATS was founded in 1988 and is the largest grower of native plants in BC. NATS is also the BC grower/distributor for LiveRoof, a modular green roof system.
Reporting to the Shipping Manager and based on your experience, your responsibilities may include:
Responsibilities:
· Drive a 1-ton box truck to load/unload plants from other nurseries
· Assist with the production and care of plants on the nursery (e.g.- potting, weeding, trimming, moving)
· Assist with building pallets/crates to ship plants in
· Assist with preparing plants for shipment (e.g.- selecting plants out of the batch, picking order, weeding, labelling)
· General nursery labor work (e.g.- helping with small repairs, tidying up)
· Operate farm equipment when necessary (e.g.- small tractor, forklift)
- Assist with pulling orders, harvesting seedlings, daily shipping and distribution in a timely manner.
- Check to ensure the right products are going to the right customers.
- Process documents such as shipping pick-lists, bills of lading, etc.
- Direct the flow of packaged plant material from preparation to shipping.
- Create and/or inspect shipping labels of completed orders.
- Work with/and be part of the shipping crew to pull and prepare orders for pick up or delivery.
- Collaborate with growers and sales personnel and others to optimize processes.
- Resolve issues regarding shipped orders.
- Ensure compliance to legal regulations and company policies.
- Report to Shipping Manager on activities and issues.
Skills & Experience:
- Growing and horticulture experience is an asset.
- Knowledge of logistics procedures an asset.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
- Attention to detail
- Must be able to repetitively lift up to 20 - 50 lbs. daily: occasionally drag trees up to 80 lbs.
- Forklift, bobcat, tractor experience and/or tickets an asset.
- Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions (primarily outside work). Must be comfortable working in all weather conditions as required.
- Steel toe boots and outdoor gear required (rain)
- Must have reliable transportation (not accessible via public transit)
- Must have driver’s license. Class 5 with air endorsement an asset.
- Capacity to handle multiple tasks and prioritize accordingly.
- Ability to take short and long term responsibility for specific tasks.
- Aptitude to communicate well in English in written and oral form.
- Demonstrate commitment to the job, team, and business, and if necessary work overtime on short notice.
- Using initiative and intelligence to get jobs done properly the first time.
- Quick learner with ability and capacity to adapt to new plants, crops and situations.
- Good math skills
- Maintain personal standards of work, i.e. speed and quality.
- Attention to detail and strong observational skills.

Benefits
Compensation: $27 - $29 / hr
Shifts: Full-time (40 hours per week) Monday to Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM. Will also need to be flexible as there could be occasional weekend work require.
Start Date: to be negotiated, ASAP
Pay: $27.00-$29.00 per hour
