Rising Above has supported individuals who are struggling in a cycle of defeat which has primarily included addiction, homelessness, and incarceration through the 6-month residential treatment program based on the H.E.L.P.S. model.

Position Summary
The Residential Recovery Coach plays a vital role in supporting participants as they progress through the Rising Above recovery program and serves as both a mentor and spiritual role model, helping participants apply the principles of recovery, personal responsibility, and spiritual growth within the daily rhythms of residential life.
This position focuses on mentorship, accountability, and community living, helping participants develop the structure, habits, life skills, and healthy relationships necessary for long-term recovery. Through regular one-on-one meetings, daily residential interaction, spiritual encouragement, and practical support, the Recovery Coach helps participants remain engaged in their recovery goals while fostering a safe, structured, and Christ-centred environment marked by respect, accountability, and personal growth.
As a member of the Participant Care Team, the Recovery Coach works closely with Inner Healing Facilitators, the Employment Readiness Coordinator, and programme leadership to ensure participants receive coordinated support throughout their recovery journey. The successful candidate will model Christian character, integrity, healthy boundaries, servant leadership, and personal accountability while contributing to the mission, culture, and recovery philosophy of Rising Above.
Key Responsibilities
Participant Mentorship and Support
- Provide mentorship, encouragement, and accountability to participants on their recovery journey, programming requirements, emotional and spiritual formation toward personal growth and longterm recovery.
- Offer prayer support and spiritual guidance to participants and community members.
- Model Christian faith and lifestyle in interactions with participants and community members.
- Conduct regular one-on-one meetings with participants to review progress, challenges, and goal.
- Encourage participants to remain engaged with program and personal development goals.
- Help participants develop healthy routines, responsibility, and life skills for long-term recovery.
- Engage in spiritual discussions with participants as needed, especially when transporting them
Residential Oversight and Accountability
- Maintain a visible and supportive presence within the residence to ensure residence remains a safe, respectful, and welcoming environment.
- Supervise and support participants to adhering to house expectations, ie. curfews, chores.
- Respond to incidents or concerns in accordance with program policies and procedures.
- Address issues of conflict, accountability, or rule violations in a calm and constructive manner.
Community Culture and Engagement
- Orient participants or community members to the Rising Above Christian-based program
- Cultivate a Christ-centred recovery community marked by respect, encouragement, accountability, healthy relationships and communication, leadership, and appropriate boundaries.
- Help organize community activities, strengthen relationships and timely conflict resolution.
- Prepare and Implement 1-2 Life-Skill classes week accordingly, as needed.
Documentation and Participant Progress
- Maintain accurate records of participant meetings, progress notes, and relevant incidents.
- Track participant engagement and progress within the program.
- Contribute observations that support the participant care process, like participant review meetings.
- Communicate concerns or emerging issues to the Program Manager
Team Collaboration
- Prepare progress reports for Program Manager and members of a Participant Support Team.
- Contribute to staff development by learning how different roles function.
- Participate in staff meetings and prayer times, training, and team collaboration.
- Work closely with other program staff to ensure participants receive coordinated support.
- Support Fundraising events, including those targeting Christian donors.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated Christian faith, spiritual maturity, and a willingness to actively support the ministry's Statement of Faith, mission, values, and Christ-centred approach to recovery.
- Strong interpersonal and mentoring skills while maintaining healthy professional boundaries
- Ability to work in a structured residential recovery environment ie. Organization, documentation.
- Ability to manage difficult conversations with calmness and clarity
- Education or training in addiction recovery, social services, ministry/pastoral care, or a related field
- Candidates must hold, or be willing to obtain, the Recovery Coach Professional (RCP) Certification within the first 12 months of employment. (Rising Above will support staff in completing this certification as part of their professional development.)
- Participation in the on-call rotation, which may include evenings, nights, or weekends.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to respond to participant needs when scheduled on call.
- Access to a personal vehicle is considered an asset.
- Due to the nature of this role within a male residential recovery environment, the successful candidate must be male.
Preferred
- Lived experience in addiction recovery
- Experience working in recovery programs, residential care, pastoral or ministry roles, or community support settings
Pay: $25.00-$28.00 per hour
