Job Overview:
The Electrical Engineering Associate/Technician supports the design, development, implementation, and continuous improvement of electrical and automation systems within a manufacturing environment. This role applies technical knowledge in electrical, electronic, and control systems to assist with equipment design, commissioning, troubleshooting, testing, and performance optimization.
Working collaboratively with engineering, production, maintenance, and external vendors, the position contributes to safe, reliable, and efficient plant operations by supporting new installations, process improvements, and corrective actions. The role involves both office-based technical work and hands-on support on the plant floor, ensuring compliance with applicable safety standards and company quality system
Responsibilities & Duties
Engineering & Design
- Design, implement, and commission electrical equipment and systems.
- Assist in design activities including equipment specifications, manufacturing support, and installation/construction tasks.
- Create and update electrical drawings for new and existing systems/equipment.
- Review third party integrations and evaluate emerging technology/products.
Technical & Project Support
- Support project theme creation, technical investigations, cost justifications, and presentations (E Flow Method).
- Reverse engineer systems/equipment for component identification.
- Assist in building and testing prototypes according to standards.
- Perform a range of technical functions supporting electrical/electronic engineering research.
Testing, Troubleshooting & Maintenance
- Set up and operate specialized and standard test equipment to diagnose and analyze electrical/electronic systems.
- Install, operate, and maintain electrical and electronic equipment and systems.
- Calibrate equipment per manuals and written instructions.
- Complete root cause reports and corrective measures using the PDCA Cycle.
- Develop and implement equipment changes to improve efficiency, reliability, and recovery.
- Create electrical PMs, conduct inspections, and perform safety verification for circuits, controls, and panels.
Compliance & Safety
- Ensure all equipment installations comply with safety standards and PHSR requirements.
- Maintain strong adherence to SPS safety and quality systems.
Other Duties
- Participate in special projects as required.
- Write specifications, schedules, technical reports, and manage schedules/budgets.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education & Experience
- Post Secondary Electrical Engineering or Technologist diploma, or equivalent experience in a process driven automotive logistics manufacturing environment
- Industrial experience in Electrical, Electronics, or Mechatronics.
- Ideal candidate will have at least 1 year of hands on experience in automation, manufacturing, or industrial maintenance.
Technical Skills
- Ability to create and interpret electrical drawings.
- PLC programming experience.

- Experience with CAD software.

Additional Requirements
- Hands on troubleshooting and equipment modification ability.
- Proven abilities using hand tools.
- Strong written and verbal communication.
- Independent, self starter mindset.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs as needed
- Willingness to work overtime, shutdowns, and some weekends.
Work Environment:
- Combination of office and production floor work, including hands-on equipment troubleshooting and modifications. Exposure to noise and other manufacturing environment conditions
- Role may involve periods of high mental demand and time-sensitive troubleshooting, particularly during equipment downtime, shutdowns, or production interruptions
- Offers functional direction and technical expertise to team members and leadership to support safe and efficient operations, while not holding direct supervisory authority
Shift Hours
7:30-4:00pm
