Position Summary

Reporting to the Associate Dean, School of Interdisciplinary Studies, the incumbent will assist students enrolled in the CICE program to maximize their learning potential.

Duties and Responsibilities

Assists in the transition to College life, including liaising between students and College resources (Financial Aid, Health & Equitable Learning supports, Student Advisors)
Advocates for students’ modified course outcomes, tests and assignments, where required
Provides classroom support via advocacy skills, note taking, group facilitation, etc.
Assists students with organizing and prioritizing classes and assignments
Supports students’ use of assistive devices to enable the use of technology for assignments
Assists students in developing skills in task completion, learning strategies and assistive technology
Works with students to identify appropriate work placement opportunities
Promotes the CICE program to local and regional agencies, schools, employers, and other community partners
Assists with the recruitment, selection, and orientation of eligible students

Qualifications

A two (2) year diploma in a relevant field of study such as Developmental Services Worker. A degree in Social Science considered an asset
Minimum of three (3) years’ experience working with persons with developmental disabilities, persons with significant learning barriers
Experience working with students in a secondary and/or post-secondary environment is preferred

Demonstrated knowledge and experience utilizing educational/learning strategies
Experience in the teaching/tutoring environment where outcomes were modified to meet learner needs
Proficient in the use of computer software (i.e. Microsoft Office, online resources, adaptive learning technologies)
Excellent organizational and creative problem-solving skills
Superior communication skills with a high degree of professionalism and diplomacy
An ability to work within a highly collaborative environment demonstrated through a strong network of contacts with other professionals, agencies, and employers
Ability to travel locally for field placements and student recruitment events – a valid driver’s license and clean driving abstract required
