This position supports Mental Health and Addiction Community Clinic services at the Brooks Regional Health Centre. Reporting to the Manager and Clinical Supervisor, the Mental Health Clinician provides client-centered care across the lifespan, including biopsychosocial assessments, development and implementation of therapeutic treatment plans, delivery of evidence-informed interventions, and coordination of referrals. Advocacy for client needs and equitable access to services is a key component of the role. The clinician provides consultation and liaison to interdisciplinary hospital teams and collaborates with community providers to ensure continuity of care and integration between acute and community services. This role requires cultural awareness, sensitivity, and the ability to effectively engage with diverse populations, including children, adolescents, adults, and families. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, flexibility, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively are essential. A solid understanding of community resources and programs is expected to support comprehensive care planning. The clinician may also consult with inpatient staff regarding potential referrals to community mental health services in Brooks, ensuring appropriate transition and follow-up. Professional judgment, ethical practice, and a commitment to recovery-oriented care are fundamental to this position.
As a Mental Health Clinician, you will work as a member of the multidisciplinary health care team collaborating on the delivery of care for the needs of individuals, families and/or communities. You will be responsible for the intake, clinical interviews, and screening of clients with addiction and mental health disorders. You will liaise with a variety of internal and external stakeholders and work collaboratively with other team members as required. You may have the opportunity to participate in program planning, development and to provide supervision to practicum students. This position is open to Registered Nurses, Registered Psychiatric Nurses, Registered Social Workers, Registered Psychologists, and Registered Occupational Therapists.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of a master's degree in psychology; a bachelor's degree in social work incorporating education in mental health assessment, brief counseling, and crisis intervention; a master's or bachelor's degree in occupational therapy with similar educational components; a bachelor's degree in nursing with training and experience in mental health assessment, crisis intervention, and brief counseling; or a bachelor's degree in psychiatric nursing. Active or eligible for registration with the applicable Alberta regulatory college.
Additional Required Qualifications:
3 – 5 years’ experience in Addiction and Mental Health, including 1-3 years' experience supporting urgent mental health services. Experience working with multidisciplinary team and community agencies. Experience working with diverse populations. Solid knowledge foundation of intervention and treatment modalities relevant to clinical disorders and psychosocial and environmental problems, including single short term stabilization model. Strong critical thinking skills, assessment and intervention skills. Ability to manage a wide variety of clinical situations with varying levels of acuity and a heterogeneous client population. Comprehensive knowledge of relevant community resources and legislation. Strong mental health assessment, crisis management and counselling skills. High degree of creativity and flexibility as well as the ability to work independently. Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing; high level of interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Proficiency with Connect Care. Experience working in rural mental health. Aware of community resources as applicable to the Community of Brooks. Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, NVCI, certification.
