Position Summary
The Banquet Server provides professional food and beverage service for meetings, conferences, weddings, receptions, and banquet events while maintaining service excellence, presentation standards, sanitation, and guest satisfaction. This role supports event setup, execution, and breakdown activities and works collaboratively with banquet, culinary, stewarding, and management teams to ensure successful event delivery.
Core Responsibilities
- Set up banquet rooms, buffets, beverage stations, place settings, linens, tables, chairs, and service equipment according to event orders and floor plans.
- Review banquet event orders and assigned responsibilities prior to service.
- Serve plated meals, buffet items, refreshments, and beverages in accordance with established service standards and event timelines.
- Provide courteous, professional, and attentive service to guests throughout events.
- Monitor guest needs and respond promptly to service requests and inquiries.
- Replenish buffet stations, beverage stations, condiments, and service supplies as required.
- Clear tables, remove used service items, and maintain clean, organized, and presentable event spaces during service.
- Assist with room resets, event breakdowns, transport of equipment and service items, and post-event cleanup activities.
- Coordinate with kitchen, banquet, stewarding, and management teams to ensure efficient service execution.
- Communicate service issues, shortages, spills, equipment concerns, or client requests promptly to supervisors.
- Support special event requirements and assist with maintaining event timelines and service quality standards.
SOP and Compliance Expectations
- Follow Food Handling SOPs where applicable, beverage service standards, sanitation procedures, and event setup and closing checklists.
- Comply with tray handling procedures, spill response protocols, breakage response procedures, and room turnover standards.
- Maintain clean and organized service stations throughout assigned shifts.
- Adhere to workplace health and safety policies, emergency procedures, and safe lifting practices.
- Ensure proper handling, transportation, and storage of service equipment, utensils, and banquet supplies.
- Report hazards, maintenance concerns, damaged equipment, and safety issues promptly.
- Maintain professional appearance and grooming standards in accordance with company policies.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, or holidays as required by event schedules.
Qualifications
- Previous banquet, catering, restaurant, hotel, conference centre, or hospitality service experience preferred.
- Strong customer service, communication, teamwork, and time management skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-volume event environment.
- Ability to follow instructions, service standards, and event timelines with attention to detail.
- Smart Serve Certification required or must be obtained as required by the employer.
- Additional role-specific certifications may be required depending on service offerings.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
This position requires extensive standing and walking, frequent lifting and carrying of trays, dishes, equipment, and service items, as well as participation in room setup and teardown activities. The role requires flexibility to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and high-volume events in a fast-paced hospitality environment.
Pay: $18.00-$19.00 per hour
