A significant new business venture is underway that will transform our organization from a primarily seasonal operation into a year-round business. As we grow and diversify, we're looking for an experienced Director of Finance & Controller to join our senior leadership team and help lead the financial strategy that will support this next stage of success.
Reporting directly to the President, this role offers a rare opportunity to influence strategic decision-making while remaining actively involved in the day-to-day financial operations of the business.

About the Role
As our senior financial leader, you will provide both strategic direction and hands-on leadership across all areas of finance and accounting. You'll partner closely with the leadership team to ensure sound financial management, support business growth, improve operational performance, and provide the insights needed to make informed decisions.

Key Responsibilities
Strategic Financial Leadership
- Partner with senior leadership to develop and execute the organization's financial strategy.
- Lead annual budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial planning.
- Provide financial analysis and recommendations that support business decisions and future growth.
- Monitor organizational performance, profitability, and key financial indicators.
- Evaluate business opportunities, capital investments, and financial risks.
- Support strategic initiatives associated with the organization's expansion into year-round operations.
Financial Management & Reporting
- Prepare and present accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports.
- Develop financial forecasts and cash flow projections.
- Monitor cash flow and liquidity requirements.
- Analyze budget variances and provide actionable recommendations.
- Deliver financial analysis to support operational and strategic decision-making.
Accounting & Controller Functions
- Oversee all accounting operations, including:
- Accounts Payable
- Accounts Receivable
- Payroll oversight
- General Ledger
- Fixed Assets
- Bank reconciliations
- Ensure accurate month-end and year-end close processes.
- Maintain strong internal controls and accounting policies.
- Oversee banking relationships, treasury functions, and financial record integrity.
- Coordinate with external accountants, financial institutions, and lenders.
Compliance & Risk Management
- Coordinate the annual Review Engagement.
- Ensure compliance with financial reporting standards, tax regulations, GST filings, and corporate reporting requirements.
- Maintain effective financial controls and policies that safeguard company assets.
- Assist leadership with insurance matters, legal matters, regulatory inquiries, and risk management initiatives.
Leadership & Systems
- Lead, mentor, and develop a small accounting and administrative team.
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Work closely with department managers across the organization.
- Support and enhance financial systems, accounting software, POS systems, and reporting tools.
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiencies through technology and process improvements.
Qualifications
We're looking for an experienced finance professional who brings both strong technical expertise and exceptional leadership skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
- CPA designation is considered an asset.
- 7–10 years of progressive accounting and finance experience.
- Minimum five years in a senior finance leadership role.
- Strong knowledge of:
- Financial reporting
- Budgeting and forecasting
- Cash flow management
- Internal controls
- Financial analysis
- Accounting operations
- Experience working with external accountants, lenders, and regulatory agencies.
- Advanced proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent analytical, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Experience within hospitality, recreation, golf, tourism, or other service-based industries is considered an asset but is not required.
