Title: Appliance Technician Summer Student
Location: North ReStore
Status: Temporary Summer Position (40 hours per week)
Reports To: Director, ReStore Operations

Habitat for Humanity ReStores are home and building supply outlets that accept and resell new and gently used building materials. Habitat ReStores are socially conscious, as funds generated are used to fund local Habitat for Humanity Southern Alberta homebuilding projects. They are also environmentally conscious, as much of what is sold is new, gently used or customer returns that would otherwise end up in the landfill. With three retail outlets – two in Calgary and one in Medicine Hat – and an online store, Habitat ReStores are a large social enterprise. Purpose:
The daily functions of this department include timely turnaround on appliance repair, cost analysis on and purchasing of parts, thorough testing, pricing of appliances and oversight and training of apprentices. This role is to be an ambassador for the organization and must represent Habitat for Humanity Southern Alberta in a professional manner.
Responsibilities:
Key Responsibilities:
- Diagnose and repair an assortment of household and commercial appliances.
- Maintain appliances by disassembling, cleaning internal parts, replacing faulty or warn parts, reassembling and testing.
- Communicate with the Service Manager or Journeyman for the purpose of estimates.
- Recognize the critical role for volunteers in the Department’s operation and takes positive steps to develop and nurture these relationships.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Exceptional interpersonal, motivational and communication skills.
- Capacity to solve problems and leverage resources in a dynamic environment.
- Competent organization and prioritization capability in a fast and unpredictable environment.
- Experience with computer applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams.
- Either completed or currently enrolled in the Alberta Service Technician Apprenticeship program and attending school as required to ensure continual progression through the apprenticeship program.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift 50 pounds.
- Ability to spend most of the day standing or moving about store.
- Operate basic warehouse equipment, including pallet jacks, hand trucks and dollies.
- Must be able to pass a physical assessment.
