We are seeking a hands-on, results-oriented Manager, Fleet & Transportation Operations to lead and oversee our transportation network across multiple Canadian provinces.
This role is responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and profitable operation of our fleet of vans, box trucks, and tractor-trailers. The successful candidate will lead transportation operations, driver performance, fleet maintenance, safety compliance, and operational execution while supporting the continued growth of our business.
This is a highly visible leadership position requiring regular travel to facilities, distribution centers, stores, and operating locations across Canada.
Key Responsibilities
Transportation Operations
- Oversee day-to-day transportation operations across multiple provinces.
- Ensure timely and accurate delivery of products to retail locations.
- Monitor operational performance and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
- Identify and resolve service, staffing, and operational challenges.
- Develop and maintain transportation policies, procedures, and best practices.
- Use of routing software and telematics to ensure visibility and to utilize for internal and external metrics
Fleet Management
- Manage a fleet of vans, box trucks, and tractor-trailers.
- Oversee preventative maintenance programs and vehicle repair schedules.
- Monitor fleet utilization, equipment condition, fuel consumption, and operating costs.
- Work closely with maintenance providers and vendors to maximize vehicle uptime.
- Recommend equipment purchases, replacements, and fleet improvements.
Driver Leadership
- Recruit, train, coach, and develop drivers and transportation personnel.
- Conduct performance evaluations and address performance concerns when required.
- Promote a culture of professionalism, accountability, and customer service.
- Ensure drivers comply with company policies and regulatory requirements.
- Support driver retention and engagement initiatives.
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with all applicable transportation regulations and safety standards.
- Maintain driver qualification files, safety records, and compliance documentation.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and claims and implement corrective actions.
- Lead safety meetings, audits, and training programs.
- Promote a strong safety-first culture throughout the organization.
Financial & Operational Performance
- Manage transportation budgets and operating expenses.
Monitor key performance indicators including:
- On-time delivery performance
- Fleet utilization
- Vehicle downtime
- Driver productivity
- Fuel efficiency
- Safety performance
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce operating costs.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of transportation and fleet management experience.
- Experience managing commercial fleets including vans, straight trucks, and tractor-trailers.
- Strong leadership experience managing drivers and transportation teams.
- Knowledge of Canadian transportation regulations and safety requirements.
- Strong problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to travel extensively throughout Canada.
- Proficiency with transportation, fleet, and operational management systems.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in tire distribution, automotive, retail distribution, or transportation industries.
- Post-secondary education in Business, Logistics, Transportation, Supply Chain, or related field.
- Experience managing operations across multiple provinces.
Travel Requirements
- Significant travel required throughout Canada.
- Expected travel of approximately 30%–50% of working time.
- Ability to travel by air and vehicle as operational needs require.
