Help Youth Build the Skills for Employment and Life Success
The Open Doors is seeking an enthusiastic and engaging Life Skills Facilitator to join our EmpowerPLUS team.
EmpowerPLUS is an employment readiness program that equips youth with the practical life skills, workplace competencies, and confidence needed to successfully transition into employment, education, or further training.
As the Life Skills Facilitator, you will design and deliver engaging life skills workshops, provide individualized coaching, and support participants as they develop the personal and professional skills necessary for long-term success.

About the Role
Working collaboratively with the Lead Employment Coordinator and Employment Coordinator, you will help participants develop the essential skills employers value, including communication, problem solving, teamwork, financial literacy, conflict resolution, time management, professionalism, and workplace expectations.
You'll work directly with youth through group workshops, individualized coaching, community partnerships, and experiential learning opportunities designed to prepare participants for meaningful employment and independent living.
What You'll Do
- Design and facilitate engaging life skills workshops and training sessions.
- Deliver curriculum focused on workplace readiness, financial literacy, communication, conflict resolution, time management, and other essential life skills.
- Conduct participant assessments and develop individualized life skills development plans.
- Provide one-on-one coaching and mentoring to support participant success.
- Help participants apply newly learned skills in real-world settings.
- Collaborate with Employment Coordinators to support participant employment goals.
- Coordinate guest speakers, community workshops, and experiential learning opportunities.
- Build partnerships with schools, employers, training providers, and community organizations.
- Track participant progress, maintain documentation, and contribute to program evaluation and reporting.
- Continuously improve program delivery using participant feedback and best practices.
What We're Looking For
Education
Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in:
- Social Work
- Human Services
- Education
- Community Development
- Psychology
- Related field
Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
Experience
The ideal candidate will have:
- Minimum 2 years' experience facilitating life skills training, youth programming, employment preparation, or related services.
- Experience coaching, mentoring, or supporting youth and young adults.
- Excellent facilitation, presentation, and communication skills.
- Experience working with youth facing barriers to employment or education.
- Strong organizational and relationship-building abilities.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
Experience working with Indigenous youth, newcomer youth, youth with disabilities, and other equity-deserving populations is considered an asset.
Working Conditions
Programming is delivered throughout Camrose, Wetaskiwin, and East Central Alberta in classroom, community, and outreach settings. Regular travel throughout the region and occasional evening or weekend work is required.
Conditions of Employment
Successful applicants must possess:
- Clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search
- Child Intervention Record Check
- Valid Standard First Aid & CPR Certification
- Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence
- Clear Driver's Abstract (3 years)
- Ability to travel throughout the service area
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries
