The successful candidate will bring extensive experience in pipeline right-of-way construction, forestry operations, and linear infrastructure projects, with a proven ability to manage multiple crews, subcontractors, stakeholders, and project constraints in remote and dynamic operating environments. They will be responsible for overseeing field operations, workforce management, safety performance, environmental compliance, project controls, scheduling, quality assurance, production tracking, and client relations.
Roles & Responsibilities: Lead and supervise all field operations related to pipeline right-of-way clearing, mulching, grubbing, vegetation management, access development, and forestry construction activities. Provide leadership and direction to supervisors, forepersons, operators, hand fallers, subcontractors, and field personnel. Coordinate labour, equipment, materials, subcontractors, and resources to ensure efficient project execution. Maintain a visible field presence and provide mentorship, coaching, and accountability to field leadership teams. Manage unit-rate contract work measured by hectares and linear metres. Ensure accurate daily quantity tracking, production reporting, forecasting, and cost monitoring. Monitor productivity against project targets and implement corrective actions where necessary. Work closely with project controls and management teams to support invoicing, forecasting, earned value tracking, and budget performance. Maintain detailed records of production, quantities, delays, and field activities. Lead execution activities with a strong focus on critical path schedules and milestone achievement. Develop and implement short-term work plans that align with overall project objectives. Identify schedule risks and constraints proactively and implement mitigation strategies. Coordinate work activities to support downstream construction operations and overall project sequencing. Ensure full compliance with Environmental Protection Plans (EPPs), wildlife management requirements, watercourse crossing permits, regulatory approvals, and client environmental standards. Coordinate closely with environmental inspectors, regulatory representatives, Indigenous communities, and project stakeholders. Ensure crews understand and adhere to environmental commitments and construction restrictions. Monitor environmentally sensitive work areas and implement mitigation measures as required. Champion a strong safety culture through visible leadership, engagement, and accountability. Lead safety meetings, field inspections, hazard assessments, and incident investigations. Ensure compliance with company, client, and regulatory safety requirements. Promote continuous improvement and proactive risk management across all project activities Maintain a strong understanding of pipeline construction sequencing, including clearing, grading, access development, stringing, welding, lowering-in, reclamation, and cleanup activities. Coordinate field operations to support overall pipeline construction requirements and schedules. Plan work around environmental windows, permit conditions, regulatory requirements, and operational constraints. Interpret and manage construction activities based on right-of-way survey layouts, centreline alignments, stationing, offsets, and project drawings. Ensure crews understand right-of-way boundaries and approved work limits. Prevent unauthorized disturbance outside designated construction areas. Provide oversight of hand-falling operations and forestry-related construction activities. Ensure supervisors and crews comply with applicable forestry regulations, WorkSafeBC requirements, hazard assessments, and safe work procedures. Support planning and execution of hand-falling operations in challenging terrain and remote environments. Conduct regular field inspections to ensure work meets project specifications and quality standards. Maintain accurate daily reports, production records, environmental documentation, and project correspondence. Build and maintain strong working relationships with clients, Indigenous communities, regulators, subcontractors, and project stakeholders. Resolve operational challenges professionally and efficiently.
Qualifications & Experience: 10+ years of progressively responsible experience in pipeline right-of-way construction, forestry operations, linear infrastructure, or heavy civil construction. Minimum 5 years of experience in a Superintendent or Senior Superintendent leadership role. Proven experience managing large-scale pipeline clearing, forestry, or right-of-way construction projects. Strong understanding of unit-rate contracts, production tracking, quantity verification, cost reporting, forecasting, and project controls. Demonstrated experience managing schedule-driven projects with critical path milestones and multiple concurrent work fronts. Thorough understanding of pipeline construction sequencing and coordination requirements. Extensive knowledge of Environmental Protection Plans (EPPs), wildlife mitigation requirements, crossing permits, environmental regulations, and compliance management. Experience working within environmentally sensitive areas and managing construction activities under environmental constraints. Strong understanding of survey layouts, right-of-way boundaries, centreline stationing, offsets, and construction drawings. Working knowledge of hand-falling operations, forestry safety requirements, and WorkSafeBC regulations. Proven ability to manage multiple crews, subcontractors, stakeholders, and project priorities simultaneously. Strong leadership, organizational, communication, conflict resolution, and decision-making skills. Page 2 of 3 Experience working in remote and northern operating environments. Valid Class 5 Driver’s License and willingness to travel extensively to project sites. Being able to pass an Alcohol / Drug and potentially physical fitness testing will be a condition of employment.
