The Role – Own It. Lead It. Crush It.
We are seeking a driven and experienced General Manager who will lead overall store performance by driving profitability, operational excellence, and outstanding customer service. This role oversees all key store functions—including merchandising, staffing, donation flow, and compliance—while fostering a high-performing, inclusive team aligned with Talize’s mission of sustainable and affordable fashion. The General Manager executes business strategies, develops talent, and ensures strong financial results and community engagement.

This role requires open availability, including weekends, holidays, and closing shifts, with consistent reliability to support smooth operations.
Salary Rate
$72,500 / annually

Departmental Duties
- Store Operations:
- Oversee daily store operations, including customer service, retail floor execution, donation intake, and merchandise flow.
- Ensure the store meets sales goals, maintains strong merchandising standards, and delivers an exceptional customer experience.
- Maintain store cleanliness, organization, and operational readiness from open to close.
- Financial Management:
- Drive financial results by managing sales performance, labor usage, and expense control.
- Track key metrics and make operational adjustments to support profitability and efficiency.
- People Leadership
- Lead, coach, and develop the AGM and store team to uphold company values, policies, and performance expectations.
- Manage recruiting, onboarding, training, and performance evaluations for all store employees.
- Foster a positive, inclusive culture through communication, recognition, and team engagement.
- Health, Safety & Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with operational policies, HR standards, and health and safety regulations.
- Address hazards, incidents, and theft concerns in alignment with company protocols.
- Maintain consistent adherence to company procedures across all store functions.
What You Bring - Skills That Turn Heads
- 3+ years in a General Manager role within a retail store generating $4M+ in revenue.
- Strong financial and operational acumen, including budgeting, metric analysis, and cost control.
- Proven ability to coach, mentor, and develop high-performing teams.
Additional Strengths That Make You Stand Out
- Experience using KPIs and data to drive business planning and decisions.
- Comfortable with POS systems, reporting tools, and general retail technology.
- Strong background in customer service leadership and community engagement.
- Willingness to relocate within Ontario and experience supporting new store openings.
- Previous experience in thrift or discount retail environments.
- 5+ years of overall retail experience.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
- Comfortable in a physically active role involving constant movement, lifting up to 50 lbs, and safely moving rolling merchandise containers.
- Able to work in a dynamic retail environment that may involve exposure to dust, dirt, and occasional pests while maintaining safety and professionalism.
- Open to a flexible schedule—days, evenings, weekends, and holidays—and confident in engaging with customers and the community.

Here’s what you can expect:

3. Predictive Index Assessment: Take a quick 15-20 minute that helps us get to know you better.
4. Store Visit - in person Interview: Visit our store and learn about our operations and store structure. Dive into your experience, leadership style, and how you’d drive success at Talize during your meeting with Market Manager and People and Culture Business Partner.
5. Practical Exercise: Showcase your skills with a hands-on task or scenario-based activity.
6. Final Interview: Interview with Director, Loss Prevention and Risk Management.
7. Offer process: If you are successful through the interview process, you will first receive a verbal offer, which is subject to a criminal record check and background checks. After these are completed, a written offer will be issued.
