General Manager – Hospitality Operations
DWELL by SAM | St. John's, Newfoundland & Labrador
Some people manage properties.
Others create experiences people never forget.
At DWELL by SAM, we believe hospitality is an art. Every detail matters—from the first inquiry to the final goodbye. We are looking for a General Manager who shares that philosophy and is ready to lead one of Newfoundland and Labrador's most distinctive hospitality brands.
This is not a traditional hotel management role.
This is an opportunity to lead a growing collection of luxury accommodations, guest experiences, and hospitality brands while helping shape the future of one of the province's most experience driven design-led companies.
ABOUT US
DWELL by SAM is a collection of thoughtfully curated luxury accommodations created by the award-winning team at SAM Design. Every property tells a story. Every guest experience is intentionally designed. We believe hospitality extends far beyond a room—it is about creating moments people remember.
As our portfolio continues to grow, we are seeking an exceptional leader to oversee day-to-day operations while inspiring a culture of genuine hospitality.
THE ROLE
Reporting directly to ownership, the General Manager will play a central leadership role in the continued growth and success of DWELL by SAM — a distinctive hospitality brand built around thoughtful design, exceptional guest experience, and a deep commitment to quality, warmth, and care.
This is a hands-on leadership position for someone who understands that exceptional hospitality is built through people, culture, consistency, discipline, warmth, and attention to detail. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the daily operation of the hospitality portfolio, inspiring the team, protecting the guest experience, and ensuring that DWELL by SAM continues to operate at the highest possible standard.
You will be responsible for:
- Leading the guest experience, housekeeping, maintenance, service, and daily operations teams
- Building, mentoring, and motivating a strong, professional, and highly engaged team
- Creating a culture of hospitality that is warm, polished, sincere, and deeply aligned with the DWELL by SAM identity
- Ensuring every guest experience reflects the quality, care, design, and character expected of DWELL by SAM
- Driving operational excellence through clear systems, strong communication, accountability, and consistency
- Managing budgets, labour, scheduling, forecasting, and performance metrics
- Recruiting, training, coaching, and developing high-performing team members and future leaders
- Identifying opportunities to improve service, systems, efficiency, and guest satisfaction
- Working closely with ownership to execute strategic priorities and support the long-term vision for the brand
- Protecting and elevating the DWELL by SAM brand, reputation, culture, and guest experience
This role requires someone who can lead from the front, remain calm under pressure, and step in wherever needed. Whether that means supporting the guest experience team during a busy arrival day, handling a guest concern with grace, resolving an operational challenge, assisting housekeeping or maintenance when circumstances require it, or rolling up your sleeves when the unexpected happens, the General Manager must bring confidence, humility, judgment, and a genuine team-first attitude.
WHO YOU ARE
You are an experienced hospitality leader with strong, credible leadership skills and the ability to bring out the best in people.
You thrive in fast-paced environments where details matter, standards matter, and every guest interaction contributes to the reputation of the business. You understand that hospitality is not simply about service — it is about creating a feeling, building trust, and delivering consistency even when the pressure is high.
You may currently be:
- A General Manager or Assistant General Manager in a respected hospitality venue
- A Director of Operations or senior hospitality leader
- Leading a boutique hotel, luxury accommodation, inn, or premium guest experience business
- Managing a high-performing hospitality, private club, restaurant, or destination property
- Looking for an opportunity with greater creativity, autonomy, responsibility, and long-term impact
Most importantly, you are someone who naturally earns respect. You lead with clarity, fairness, and presence. You communicate well, solve problems before they become bigger problems, and understand how to build a team that feels proud, supported, accountable, and inspired.
You are not afraid of hard work. You do not disappear when things get stressful. You know how to stay composed, make sound decisions, support your people, and do whatever is necessary to protect the guest experience and the integrity of the operation.
WHAT YOU’LL BRING
- 5+ years of senior hospitality leadership experience
- Proven success leading teams, developing people, and creating strong service cultures
- Strong financial, labour, scheduling, and operational management skills
- A calm, confident, and credible leadership presence
- Excellent communication, judgment, and relationship-building abilities
- The ability to remain composed and effective under pressure
- A hands-on, roll-up-your-sleeves leadership style
- A strong understanding of guest experience, service standards, and operational discipline
- A passion for hospitality, continuous improvement, and team development
- Experience with hospitality management systems is considered an asset
- A genuine appreciation for the design, character, quality, and guest promise that define DWELL by SAM
