About the Role
K’ómoks First Nation is seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized Accounting Clerk to support the Finance Department with a wide range of accounting and payroll responsibilities.
Reporting to the Director of Finance, this position plays a key role in processing financial transactions, preparing reports, maintaining records, and assisting with audits, compliance filings, and employee payroll support.
What You’ll Do
· Maintain accurate financial records and reconcile banking files and reports
· Process accounts receivable/payable and monthly invoices for rent, utilities, etc.
· Administer bi-weekly payroll and related adjustments, including employee inquiries
· Prepare records of employment (ROEs), T4s, and Receiver General filings
· Serve as plan administrator and liaison for group benefits and pension plans
· Support property tax cycle and financial audit preparation
· Track and reconcile monthly expenses and revenues
· Prepare bank deposits and credit card transactions
· Maintain financial policies, procedures, and organized filing systems
· Support new employee onboarding and payroll file setup
· Ensure compliance with WCB, OSFI, and EAHOR reporting requirements
· Take minutes for Financial Advisory Committee meetings
· Assist with various administrative and clerical financial tasks as needed
What You Bring
· Diploma or certificate in accounting or bookkeeping (required)
· 5+ years of direct accounting or bookkeeping experience
· PCP (Payroll Compliance Professional) Designation from the National Payroll Institute (required)
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel and Word) and financial software (e.g., Xyntax, Sage Intacct, etc.)
· Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy
· Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
· Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
· Cultural sensitivity and awareness of First Nations governance and community dynamics
· Experience working in and with Indigenous communities is preferred
