The successful candidate must:
- Possess a Master's degree with a focus on literacy or recognized course work and experience;
- Have a vehicle and a valid driver's license.
- Be willing to use own vehicle on District business as the work connected to this assignment will take place in classrooms across the geographic area (Tumbler Ridge, Chetwynd and Dawson Creek).
- Be flexible in scheduling so as to allow for after school presentations.
The successful candidate will:
- Travel a minimum of weekly to Chetwnd, Moberly Lake, and Tumbler Ridge
- Have three to five years of successful literacy teaching practice at the Kindergarten to Grade 3 level.
- Understand and be able to apply literacy strategies that have been proven through research to have an impact.
- Be committed to the District vision of all students reading and writing at grade level.
- Work under the direction of the District administrator responsible for literacy.
- Assist schools with reading level assessments.
- Use a Response to Intervention lens to look at data, then establish the degree and type of literacy assistance needed.
- Work in classes with classroom teachers to aid in the continuing development of research based literacy practices.
- Plan and lead District's literacy workshops and literacy based professional learning communities.
- Be able to help teachers differentiate literacy lessons to meet the needs of all learners in a class.
- Connect with and guide school based Literacy Resource Teachers.

District Overview
School District No. 59 (Peace River South) is located in north-eastern British Columbia in BC’s Peace River Country. We serve the communities and surrounding areas of Dawson Creek, Tumbler Ridge and Chetwynd. The District’s student population is approximately 3,500 with thirty-three percent of this population self-identifying as having Aboriginal ancestry.
Our students are accommodated in 19 schools, with student populations ranging from 25 to 650 students. The District is involved in a number of innovative partnerships with other local agencies. Programs or initiatives we undertake are rooted in our core business of a quality education for each student and the core belief of continuous learning for all.

- Relocation Allowance: Up to $5,000 for out of district applicants (with submission of approved receipts).
- Northern Travel Allowance: A Great Benefit at Tax Time! An amount of up to $4,000 of the salary paid to the employee shall be designated as a Northern Allowance Travel benefit. This allowance shall be in effect within the guidelines of Revenue Canada as they exist and are changed by Revenue Canada from year to year and shall end when the Revenue Canada program ends. Regular part time employees’ allowance will be prorated proportionate to the hours worked.
- Remote and Rural Allowance: Teachers working in School District No. 59 are eligible to receive a remote and rural allowance, which is both an adjustment to the salary grid and an annual allowance of approximately $3,035* per FTE. Teachers on call (TOCs) are not eligible to receive this allowance.
- The annual allowance may
increase as defined within the Collective Agreement with the British Columbia
Teachers Federation.
