SALES ASSOCIATE -
FULL-TIME
(Hourly Rate from $19.00 Depending on Qualifications)
HOURS: 7:00AM to 5:30PM (Monday - Friday)
8:00AM to 5:00PM (Saturday)
JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Sales Associate is responsible for providing prompt, courteous and efficient service to customers, advising them on appropriate merchandise and related items, confirming prices; processing transactions (cash, credit card, debit card, cheque) using POS software; ticketing and replenishing merchandise, cycle counting; general housekeeping of shelves, loss prevention, merchandising, restocking and staying current with trends in the industry.
The sales associate performs all assigned tasks with sufficient speed and accuracy to support store efficiency and a high level of customer service and contributes to the work environment in a positive manner that fosters pride in being part of a winning team.DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist customers in locating merchandising in store, on homehardware.ca, as well as processing special orders non-stock or out of stock items.
- Ensure customers are greeted within 30 seconds of entering the store or department.
- Determine customer’s needs by asking open-ended questions.
- Communicate product knowledge to the customer as appropriate.
- Assist customers in locating and comparing merchandise.
- Assist customers with finding all items needed to complete their project.
- Record repeat customer requests for product and follow-up when product arrives at the store.
- Assist customers with carrying out of large or heavy items.
- Relieve as cashier when necessary.
- Cover and assist in all departments in the store and yard as necessary.
- Follow procedures and maintain standards according to store policy in the following areas: loss prevention, receiving and pricing goods, merchandise handling and presentation, housekeeping, reordering merchandise, restocking shelves and handling cash.
- Advise the designated manager of inventory shortages, damaged goods etc.
- Change prices on merchandise, bins, displays, etc. as necessary.
- Build special displays and signage for sales, promotions and other special events.
- Remove sales and promotional displays, prices etc. and rearrange stock following promotional events.
- Always take appropriate safety precautions when cutting pipe, wire mesh, making keys etc., and make an effort to minimize waste.
- Help unload incoming trucks as necessary.
- Check incoming merchandise to spot shortages, damaged goods, etc.
- Keep back stock in storage area neat, clean, and orderly.
- Participate in regular cycle counting, and assist in taking inventory counts.
- Reorder merchandise according to stores buying procedures as necessary.
- Make suggestions for rule or policy changes when such changes would improve sales, profits, efficiency, morale, and/or operations in general.
- Attend store meetings, training sessions, etc. as required.
- Work on special projects as assigned by floor supervisor.
- Work on additional duties and assignments as assigned by management.
- Work in a safe manner in accordance with provincial and federal safety legislation. Report any potential hazards and unsafe behavior to management in order to have the situation corrected.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School graduation or equivalent
- Retail background and experience is an asset.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including weekends, evenings and holidays.
- Friendly and helpful attitude toward customers.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Excellent mathematical skills.
- Ability to work co-operatively in a team atmosphere.
- Willingness to learn.
- Willingness to continually develop professional skills and knowledge.
- Creative abilities for making attractive and efficient in-store displays.
- Ability to commute/relocate.
- POS system and computer experience is an asset.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to move merchandise weighing a minimum of 50 pounds.
- Have full range of body movement including walking, standing, sitting, lifting floor to waist, lifting waist to shoulder, stair climbing, ladder climbing, bending and/or twisting.

SCHEDULE:
- 8 hour shift during store operational hours.
- Day shift and some evenings shifts as necessary.
- Monday To Saturday.
- Overtime.
EXPERIANCE:
- Experience working in retail, sales and hardware is a bonus but not necessary.
- Customer service.
WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:
- Reports directly to the Floor Supervisor or Store Manager.
