Description
The Wash Technician will work within the shift teams and communicates with the Wash Rack Lead Technician & stakeholders for yard management support. Completes the car moves required in the operations area for a safe and efficient operation. Focal point for servicing and minor repairs of all railcars.
Minimum Qualifications/Pre-requisites
- High school education or general education diploma or 3 to 6 months job-related experience; or equivalent of education, and sufficient training in rail operations.
- This position involves shift work, including days, nights, and weekends, with scheduling flexibility based on operational needs.
- The Wash Rack Technician must be certified in all areas of the facility – washing hopper cars, switching cars, operating a Railcar Mover, small repairs to hopper cars, and knowledge of wash process equipment.
- IROR (Industrial Railway Operating Rules) certified.
Responsibilities
Duties of the Wash Rack Technician include, but are not limited to:
- Washing, inspecting and small repairs to hopper cars.
- Safely switch railcars into and out of the facility.
- To new Team Members provide coaching, training, and mentoring on railcar inspections, including internal lining, external paint, regulatory car marks, bottom outlets, etc.
- Issue Safe Work Permits (SWP) and isolate equipment as needed using Red Tag Master (RTM) system.
- Participate in Root Cause or failure analysis on facility equipment.
- Identifies areas for improvement.
- Troubleshoot equipment (process or railcar) issues and assist with resolution.
- Provide support to the Wash Rack Lead Technician as needed and address/resolve customer needs.
- Makes sure the washed volume of railcars is adequate.
- Assures required volume of consumables are stocked (seals, caps, etc.).
- Follow all relative Work Processes.
- Utilize the Electronic tools.
- Actively seek out and participate in any training needed to fulfill this role.
- Watco may at any time provide other instructions as required.
Work Environment
The work environment for Team Members will include shift work, exposure to moderate noise, lifting, climbing, walking etc. in all weather conditions.

Pay: $28.00-$30.00 per hour
