Safety Manager

On behalf of our client,
Northern Plains Transport, we are seeking a proactive
Safety Manager to support and strengthen safety practices across fuel distribution, transportation, and logistics operations. This role is responsible for promoting a strong safety culture, ensuring regulatory compliance, and providing coaching and guidance to drivers and operational teams throughout the organization. Working closely with leadership and frontline employees, the Safety Manager will play a hands-on role in driver coaching, fuel handling safety, incident management, training, and continuous improvement initiatives.
As the Safety Manager, you will:
- Lead and manage Northern Plains Transport’s health, safety, and environmental (HSE) programs across all operations.
- Coach, mentor, and support drivers to promote safe work practices, regulatory compliance, and ongoing safety awareness.
- Conduct regular site visits, inspections, and audits across operating regions, travelling to each location on a quarterly basis.
- Provide guidance and oversight related to fuel handling practices, transportation safety, and operational risk management.
- Investigate incidents, identify root causes, and implement corrective and preventative actions.
- Deliver safety training programs and support continuous learning initiatives throughout the organization.
- Ensure compliance with applicable federal and provincial transportation, fuel handling, and occupational health and safety regulations.
- Monitor and report on key safety metrics, trends, and performance indicators.
- Utilize systems including OfficeTrack and Motive to monitor operations, support investigations, and enhance safety performance.
- Support emergency response planning and preparedness initiatives.
- Build positive working relationships with drivers, operations personnel, leadership teams, and community partners.
You and Your Experience:
- 3–5 years of health and safety experience, preferably within petroleum, transportation, logistics, fuel distribution, or similar industrial environments.
- Strong understanding of petroleum operations, fuel handling practices, and transportation safety requirements.
- Valid Class 1 Driver's Licence and ability and willingness to travel regularly across Canada is required.
- Strong working knowledge of safety regulations and industry best practices.
- Strong computer skills and comfort learning and utilizing operational and safety management systems.
- Highly organized, process-oriented, and detail-oriented with strong documentation and recordkeeping abilities.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills with the ability to connect effectively with drivers and frontline employees.
- Experience coaching and influencing others in a safety-focused environment.
- Strong problem-solving, investigative, and analytical skills.
