About Us
ProDesign Automation, based in Brampton, Ontario, has been designing and building custom automated machinery for small and mid-sized projects since 2007. We work across industries including life sciences, food and beverage, automotive, packaging, injection moulding, and general industry — building everything from custom conveyors and robotic assembly cells to full turn-key automation systems. All of our mechanical design, electrical/controls design, fabrication, and assembly is done 100% in-house, right here in our shop. Every customer who has ordered a machine from us since our founding is still an active customer today, and our systems are now running in facilities around the world.
About the Role
We build custom industrial machines, and we're looking for a junior machine builder to join our shop team. This is a hands-on, on-the-tools role — your main job is fabricating parts, welding frames, and assembling machines. You'll also wire control panels and pitch in on the day-to-day work that keeps a busy shop running: hauling parts and materials, driving the truck, maintaining shop equipment, and keeping the floor clean and organized.
This role is for someone who wants to spend their days building things with their hands — not someone looking to move toward an office job. If you're happiest at a workbench or on the shop floor, and you don't mind the less glamorous jobs that come with keeping a shop running, this is for you.
You don't need to walk in the door already knowing how to weld, wire a panel, or run a CNC machine. We'll teach you all of that. What we're really looking for is mechanical aptitude you can show us — through hobbies, side projects, past jobs, whatever. If you've torn apart and rebuilt an engine, welded up a trailer or a gate, machined or fabricated something out of metal in your garage, or done serious hands-on trades or construction work, that tells us far more than a resume full of certifications.
What You'll Be Doing
Primary responsibilities:
- Fabricating parts (we'll train you on our CNC equipment)
- Assembling machines from mechanical drawings and build instructions
- Wiring electrical control panels (we'll train you on this too)
- Welding (we'll train you on this as well)
Shop hand responsibilities — an equally important part of the job:
- Picking up and dropping off parts and materials
- Driving the truck for deliveries and pickups
- Loading and unloading deliveries, operating a forklift
- Maintaining and caring for shop machines and equipment
- Keeping the shop clean, organized, and safe
- Pitching in wherever the shop needs an extra set of hands
We're upfront that this isn't all glamorous, cutting-edge work — a good chunk of any given week is the unglamorous stuff that keeps a shop functional. We need someone who's genuinely willing to do both.
What We're Looking For
- A genuine interest in mechanical, hands-on work — and a preference for staying hands-on, not moving toward design or programming
- Demonstrated mechanical aptitude, shown through hobbies or personal projects: auto repair, welding, metalworking, general construction, or similar. We will overlook a lack of formal work experience if you can show us this.
- A strong focus on safety
- Reliability, a strong work ethic, and willingness to learn
- Comfort working both independently and as part of a team
- Willingness to take on shop-hand duties (deliveries, equipment maintenance, cleaning) as a regular part of the job, not just occasionally
- Valid full G driver's license required
- Forklift certification is a plus, but not required — we can train the right person
No formal certifications or trade school required. We care more about attitude, curiosity, and mechanical aptitude than a resume full of credentials.

This role takes place on an active shop floor and involves regular lifting, standing, and moving materials and parts throughout the day.
