Overview:
We are seeking a Lab Technologist who will be responsible for supporting technical and operational activities within laboratory and field environments.
The role involves hands-on testing, data collection, and analytical work to support engineering and scientific projects, while ensuring compliance with internal quality standards and external regulatory requirements. This role is to be based out of T Engineering’s Sudbury Offices.
Responsibilities
- Perform laboratory test work including, but not limited to, material characterization, rheological analysis, filtration and thickening, and compressive strength testing at T Engineering facilities or third-party laboratories.
- Prepare, handle, and analyze samples according to standardized protocols and test methods.
- Maintain laboratory equipment and ensure calibration and performance checks are performed regularly.
- Develop and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Job Hazard Analyses (JSAs) to ensure consistency, safety, and regulatory compliance.
- Follow all workplace safety policies, WHMIS requirements, and environmental regulations applicable to laboratory and field work.
- Accurately record and document test methods, results, and observations in lab notebooks, logs, and reports.
- Participate in internal quality control programs to ensure the accuracy and reliability of test results.
- Support communication with external parties, including labs, vendors, clients, and regulatory bodies, through meetings (in person or virtual) and correspondence.
- Assist with administrative tasks such as organizing documentation, managing supplies, and supporting project logistics.
- Contribute to research and development efforts by reviewing technical literature, designing experiments, and interpreting findings.
- Collaborate with internal teams to support project objectives and technical deliverables.
- Assist in the preparation of technical reports, data presentations, and visualizations for internal and client use.
- Conduct site visits to collect samples, support data acquisition, and assist with operational troubleshooting. Travel to sites and third-party laboratories, both locally and internationally, may be required to support fieldwork and testing programs.
Working Conditions
- The role involves regular handling of hazardous and potentially radioactive materials in controlled environments, following strict safety procedures and regulatory requirements.
- Work may involve exposure to dust, particularly during sample preparation and material handling activities.
- Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and training will be provided.
- Lifting and manual handling of material (up to 20 kg) will be involved.
Qualifications
- Diploma or degree in Chemical Technology, Environmental Technology, or a related technical/scientific/engineering field.
- Experience working in laboratory environments; knowledge of materials testing is an asset.
- Experience in tailings, or geotechnical labs is an asset.
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and safety practices.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and basic data analysis tools.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team, both on-site and remotely.
- Willingness and ability to travel for fieldwork, site visits, and testing at third-party laboratories, including both local and international locations.
