Our team is looking for a Concrete Quality Control Technician for our La Crete / High Level , AB location. This is a Seasonal Fulltime position required from June - September.
POSTION SUMMARY:
The Quality Control Technician – Concrete is responsible for performing field and laboratory testing, inspection, and quality control/assurance activities across multiple ready-mix concrete plants. This role supports consistent product quality, compliance with CSA standards and industry requirements.
This position requires a high level of independence, a general understanding of quality control processes and the willingness to learn and develop technical knowledge, physical capability (moderate lifting up to 50lb capacity), and the ability to travel between plant locations to support operations. The technician will assist in maintaining quality standards, coaching troubleshooting production issues, supporting audits, and ensuring accurate and timely data collection and reporting.
- RESPONSIBILITIES:Perform field testing of plastic concrete, including slump, air content, temperature, density (unit weight).
- · Conduct sampling and testing in accordance with CSA A23.1 / A23.2 / CCIL standards.
- · Prepare, cure, and test concrete cylinders (compressive strength testing coordination).
- · Perform aggregate testing, including moisture content, sieve analysis/gradation, percent fracture.
- · Monitor and verify batching accuracy, including review of mix designs and batch records.
- · Identify, document, and report non-conformances; support corrective actions.
- · Ensure all QC equipment is properly maintained and calibrated.
- · Maintain accurate and timely documentation, including test reports, batch records, calibration records, audit documentation.
- · Support QC department responsibilities such as mix design submittals, environmental product declarations (EPDs)
- · Support plant certification processes (Concrete Alberta, CCIL), including audit preparation and compliance tracking.
- · Assist plant operations with troubleshooting mix performance and quality-related issues.
- · Maintain cleanliness and organization of QC labs, equipment, and workspaces.
- · Travel between plant locations (including remote sites) to provide QC support as required .
- · Collaborate with plant managers, batchers, drivers, and operations teams to ensure consistent quality standards.
- · Participate in safety programs and adhere to all company and regulatory safety requirements.
- · Participate in ongoing training related concrete materials, aggregates, testing standards and procedures.
- · Perform other duties as assigned .
QUALIFICATIONS/KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE:
- · Valid class 5 commercial driver's license (CDL) with a clean driving record.
- · ACI Level 1 Certification (required or willingness to obtain).
- · 3-5 years previous experience in ready-mix concrete QC or construction materials testing preferred.
- · General understanding of concrete materials, mix designs, and production processes preferred.
- · Experience with aggregate testing (moisture, gradation, fracture) preferred.
- · Ability to read and interpret specifications and standards (CSA A23.1 / A23.2).
- · Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- · Ability to work independently across multiple locations *this is a travel-heavy position.
- · Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- · Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel across Alberta.
- · Ability to work in varying weather and site conditions.

- · Regular exposure to conditions including heat, humidity, and dust.
- · Use of required personal protective equipment.
- · Flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
- · Overtime and travel as required.
- · May on occasion be exposed to loud sounds and distracting noise levels such as from equipment.
- · Working hours will vary on a week-by-week basis and there is no guarantee of a minimum number of hours of work per week. Hours of work are subject to, but not limited to unforeseen issues such as weather delays.
