The BC Fruit Growers' Association (BCFGA) is seeking an analytical and motivated Economic Policy Analyst to support applied economic research and policy development within BC's tree fruit sector.

This temporary full-time Canada Summer Jobs position will provide an opportunity to work directly on industry challenges affecting tree fruit growers across British Columbia. The successful candidate will contribute to projects that support grower decision-making, industry advocacy, and long-term sector sustainability.

Founded in 1889, BCFGA represents approximately 300 farming families and agricultural businesses across the Okanagan, Similkameen, and Creston Valleys. We advocate for growers, support research and innovation, and work with government and industry partners to strengthen the future of BC tree fruit production.

What You'll Do

Conduct economic research and policy analysis on issues affecting BC tree fruit growers
Gather, organize, and analyze industry data
Prepare briefing notes, summaries, and background research
Support development of economic tools and resources for growers
Assist with stakeholder and government-facing policy materials
Present findings and recommendations to BCFGA staff

Summer Project Deliverables

Develop a Tree Fruit Cost of Production Model, including analysis of production inputs, labour, packing, post-harvest costs, financing pressures, and grower margins
Conduct an Agricultural Waste Management Economic Analysis examining disposal costs and systems within the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen, Regional District of Central Okanagan, Regional District of North Okanagan, and Regional District of Central Kootenay, including identification of potential cost-saving and value-recovery opportunities

What We're Looking For

Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills
Interest in economics, public policy, agriculture, business, finance, political science, or a related field
Ability to interpret information and communicate findings clearly
Strong written communication skills
Ability to work independently and manage projects
Comfortable working with spreadsheets, research sources, and data

Experience with Excel, economic analysis, data management, financial modelling, research methods, or policy development is considered an asset but is not required.

Eligibility Requirements

This position is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs program. Applicants must:

Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment
Be legally entitled to work in Canada
Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person granted refugee protection under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act
