Overview of the Opportunity

The Forestry Technician is responsible for conducting field surveys to monitor and report the status of projects completed through GRCA’s tree planting programs and assist with delivery of community tree planting events. This position reports to the Supervisor of Conservation Outreach.

Specific Accountabilities

Conduct survival assessments to document the status of projects completed through GRCA’s private land tree planting program.
Coordinate and schedule landowner visits and prepare materials and mapping required for field-based monitoring.
Compile, synthesize and report tree survival data.
Support community tree planting event delivery, including weekend events.

Technical Accountabilities

· Graduation from a recognized post-secondary institution, with training in forestry, geography, resource management, environmental science, or an equivalent discipline.

· One year of related work experience.

· Strong knowledge and identification skills of native trees and shrubs.

· Ability to read and interpret maps.

· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to compile, evaluate and process data.

· Excellent written and verbal communications skills.

· Proficient in ArcGIS and MS Office environments.

· Ability to work in inclement weather conditions and on varying terrain.

· Ability to adhere to service delivery expectations and to deal with the public in an effective and courteous manner.

· Valid Class ‘G’ Ontario driver’s license.

· Pay range starting at $29.93 per hour (working 35 hours per week)

· Gold-standard Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System (OMERS) pension fund with 100% employer matching contributions.

· Free year-round access to GRCA conservation areas (parks).
