BT Engineering Inc. (BTE) is a transportation engineering firm with offices located in Ottawa, Toronto and London. BTE provides clients with consulting services in Transportation Infrastructure and Value Management. Our team has decades of experience in the planning, design, and contract administration of multi-use trails, roads, highways, intersections and interchanges and in all the field studies and reports required for environmental assessments and permitting. We have a wide range of private and public sector clients including the Federal, Provincial and Regional governments and municipalities across Ontario and Canada.
We are seeking a candidate to join our Ottawa, Toronto or London team. Salary commensurate with experience. BTE offers flexible work hours, health care allowance and hourly rate of pay.
Key Responsibilities:
Entry level position includes field work, preparation of reports/drawings and environmental construction inspection and post construction monitoring in support of environmental assessments (EA), road ecology, impact mitigation and ecological restoration design for urban and rural roadway projects. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Fish inventories, fish habitat mapping and offsetting fish habitat mitigation;
- Terrestrial ecology inventories and evaluation of species at risk (SAR);
- Wildlife movement evaluation (Eco Passages);
- Cartographic resource mapping;
- Planting and ecological restoration design plans;
- Construction staging for environmentally sensitive construction;
- Prepare and secure permits with permitting agencies; and
- Coordination with key stakeholders as required.
Qualifications – Required:
- Post-graduate degree - Fisheries sciences, terrestrial ecology or integrated biology with practical expertise in Geographic Information Systems (ArcInfo or R GIS).
- Field biology experience gained through summer work programs and/or internships. Minimum 2 seasons of experiential work assignments in the previous 5-year period.
- Knowledge of plants, birds, fish and herpetofauna and the current federal and provincial legislative requirements that guide infrastructure development.
- Ability to undertake multiple simultaneous projects
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work in a team environment
- Working knowledge of appropriate standard software (i.e. Microsoft Office, Excel)
- Driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle
Qualifications – Preferred:
- Certification or experience in Electrofishing, Fish Identification, Ecological Land Classification, Ontario Wetland Evaluation System, Arborist or demonstrated interest in birding and botany.
- Ability to learn AutoCAD to work closely with engineering staff.
- Experience in transportation planning with knowledge of technical requirements and standards of MTO, and experience with MCEA and CEAA environmental assessments.
- Bilingual in French and ability to communicate at professional level in French would be considered an asset.
Pay: $55,000.00-$70,000.00 per year
