About the position:
Under the supervision of the Program Manager, the Mobile Addictions Outreach Worker is responsible to engage high-risk, street-involved populations and increase access to information about and participation in substance abuse treatment programs and services. This care is based on individual needs in an individual-centered, holistic fashion. The Addiction Outreach Worker will also be responsible for facilitating SMART Recovery groups for the community and providing Naloxone Training to all Southeast McMan employees.
This is a term position, from August 17, 2026, to December 31, 2026.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide addiction outreach services to youth and adults. Target populations being those most vulnerable, homeless, and/or those who do not typically access traditional services in the community.
- Provide information and support services for individuals and families living with addiction.
- Provide system navigation, referrals, and support to individuals and families requiring information or access to addiction, mental health, and/or harm reduction services.
- Providing system navigation, referrals, and supports to individuals requiring referrals to secondary resources such as housing, food security, identification, physical health, clothing, etcetera.
- Provide supports for participants seeking treatment and recovery options.
- Naloxone trainer and distributor.
- Organize, promote and facilitate SMART Recovery Meetings in community.
- Actively and effectively advocate for the needs of the participants in your program using a strength-based, trauma informed, harm reduction, recovery orientated approach.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule. The typical schedule is Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday 8:30 – 4:30 and Tuesday 12:30 – 8:30; but will vary based on the needs of the program and participants.

Requirements & Qualifications:
- Degree/Diploma in Human Services, plus one (1) year of experience working with individuals using substances/in early recovery from addiction, purposeful outreach work, case management, intervention, wrap around supports and advocacy (combination of related education/experience will be considered).
- Knowledge of existing community resources and understanding of issues related to homelessness, including poverty, mental health, and addictions.
- Knowledge of the addiction services system of care, and the different treatment interventions spanning from Harm Reduction to Abstinence Based Recovery.
- Knowledge of Detox, Treatment Centers and Recovery Housing throughout Alberta.
- Knowledge and experience facilitating psychoeducational groups to a variety of community members and demographics. Ability to engage individuals in a group environment.
- Knowledge of the Alberta Model: A Recovery Oriented System of Care and SMART Recovery Model.
- Experience in building relationships and partnerships with community resources.
- Ability to travel for work purposes, including trips to Brooks, Alberta minimally 1-2 times per month.
- Strengths in crisis intervention, public speaking, training others, communication and administrative skills are a must.
- Ability to walk up to 20KM per day and up to 5 days per week.
- Microsoft Office abilities (SharePoint, One Drive, Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
- Current Standard First Aid CPR Level C Certificate or CSA Standard Z1210-17 Intermediate First Aid Certificate
- Clear Child Intervention Record Check, dated within the past six months
- Clear Police Information Check with vulnerable sector, dated within past six months.
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License, 3-year non-commercial Driver’s Abstract, and use of reliable vehicle with $2M Third Party Liability insurance.
