Bring your electrical expertise and leadership skills to one of Ontario's most dynamic and high profile highway corridors. As an Electrical Coordinator with the Operations Division, you will play a key role in ensuring the safety, reliability, and performance of critical highway electrical infrastructure. Working from the field office at Highway 401 and Dixie Road, you'll support complex, high volume transportation systems, contribute to electrical design improvements, oversee major contracts, and gain hands-on exposure to emerging technologies shaping the future of highway operations.
Reporting to the Maintenance Superintendent, the Electrical Coordinator ensures that highway electrical systems—such as lighting, traffic signals, ATMS components, and tunnel electrical assets—are safe, functional, and well-maintained for the travelling public. In this role, you will:
- Assess electrical and advanced traffic management needs within one of the busiest highway networks in North America.
- Direct, monitor, and provide technical oversight to staff and contractors performing construction, maintenance, and repairs on electrical systems and infrastructure.
- Inspect, audit, and administer electrical contracts, area maintenance contracts, and third party maintenance agreements.
- Review electrical designs, prepare technical reports, and represent the ministry at design and technical review meetings.
- Provide expert advice, recommendations, and problem solving support on electrical matters across the contract area.
- Participate on committees, task forces, and working groups focused on electrical systems, safety, and operational improvements.
- Engage in continuous learning and exposure to innovative technologies tested and deployed across the provincial highway network.
- You possess an Electrician Trade Certificate (license) and Electrician Construction Maintenance and Construction – Electronic Control from the Ontario College of Trades
- The position requires the successful candidate to have a valid class G driver's licence or equivalent. The offer of employment is conditional upon the successful candidate providing proof that they have a valid driver's licence upon being hired.
- Knowledge of maintenance requirements for highway electrical systems and support structures.
- Understanding of traffic management principles (signing, illumination, markings, traffic control devices) and highway construction practices.
- Experience with contract administration, reporting, and documentation.
- Knowledge of financial controls to prepare cost estimates, verify payment certificates, and monitor Change Orders.
- Knowledge of legislation, regulations, directives, and standards related to electrical installation and repair.
- Working knowledge of the Ontario Electrical Code.
- Communication and interpersonal skills to work with staff, contractors, and the public.
- Presentation and persuasion skills to introduce new technologies and ideas.
- Negotiation and collaboration skills to support contract changes.
- Analytical and problem solving skills to assess electrical, construction, and maintenance issues.
- Proficiency with standard desktop applications (e.g., MS Office, MS Project) and industry specific software.
