Position Summary
Cortina Kitchens Inc. and Niico Millwork Group Ltd. are seeking a hands-on Industrial Maintenance Technician to support production equipment and facility infrastructure within our woodworking manufacturing operations.
The Industrial Maintenance Technician is responsible for completing preventive maintenance, responding to equipment breakdowns, troubleshooting mechanical/electrical and pneumatic problems, and assisting with repairs to production machinery and building systems. The successful candidate will work closely with production supervisors, equipment operators, contractors and other members of the maintenance team to improve equipment reliability, reduce downtime and maintain a safe working environment.
This position combines industrial equipment maintenance with general facility-maintenance responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform scheduled preventive and predictive maintenance on production equipment, facility systems and related assets.
- Respond to equipment breakdowns and assist with diagnosing mechanical, pneumatic and basic electrical-control problems.
- Repair or replace defective machine components, including bearings, belts, chains, hoses, fittings, sensors, switches and other serviceable parts.
- Maintain and service woodworking and manufacturing equipment such as CNC machinery, saws, sanders, presses, conveyors and material-handling equipment.
- Assist with the maintenance of dust-collection systems, compressed-air systems and other plant-support equipment.
- Complete machine adjustments, change cutting tools or saw blades, and assist with equipment setup when required.
- Read and interpret equipment manuals, mechanical drawings, pneumatic diagrams and basic electrical schematics.
- Use hand tools, power tools, drill presses, grinders, saws and other shop equipment safely.
- Perform basic welding, metal fabrication and equipment modifications where qualified.
- Follow established lockout/tagout procedures and ensure equipment guards and safety devices remain functional.
- Assist licensed tradespeople and specialized contractors with equipment and facility repairs.
- Coordinate access and provide site support to outside service contractors when assigned.
- Perform general facility-maintenance work, including minor plumbing repairs, painting, filter changes, lighting maintenance, door and hardware repairs, and seasonal exterior work.
- Assist with equipment installations, relocations, shutdown work and production-line changes.
- Record labour, findings, parts used and completed work in the company’s computerized maintenance management system (CMMS), Fiix.
- Identify recurring failures and recommend improvements to equipment reliability, safety and maintainability.
- Maintain maintenance work areas, tools and equipment in a clean and organized condition.
- Communicate equipment conditions, outstanding repairs and safety concerns to the Facilities Maintenance Manager and affected production supervisors.
- Follow all company health and safety policies, procedures and regulatory requirements.
- Perform other maintenance-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum three years of industrial or manufacturing maintenance experience.
- Experience in woodworking, cabinetry, millwork or a similar manufacturing environment is considered a strong asset.
- Practical knowledge of mechanical systems, pneumatic equipment and industrial machinery.
- Familiarity with electrical controls, motors, sensors, switches and troubleshooting methods is an asset.
- Experience with hydraulic systems, welding or metal fabrication is an asset.
- Industrial Millwright Mechanic 433A, Industrial Electrician 442A or another relevant trade certification is an asset but not required.
- Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools and common maintenance-shop equipment.
- Ability to read equipment manuals, drawings, diagrams and maintenance procedures.
- Previous experience using Fiix or another computerized maintenance management system is an asset.
- Basic computer skills and the ability to complete electronic work orders.
- Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving and organizational skills.
- Ability to prioritize urgent breakdowns while completing scheduled maintenance work.
- Ability to work independently and effectively as part of a maintenance and production team.
- Ability to communicate clearly in English, both verbally and in writing.
- Valid Ontario G-class driver’s licence and reliable transportation to travel between company facilities when required.
Work Schedule and Availability
The regular work schedule for this position is Mon-Fri (44 hours) . The successful candidate must also be available for occasional overtime, weekend work, scheduled plant shutdowns and emergency call-ins when significant equipment or facility failures occur.
This position does not require continuous 24/7 on-call availability unless specifically scheduled and communicated in advance.
Physical and Working Conditions
- Work is performed in active industrial manufacturing facilities.
- Exposure to noise, wood dust, production equipment and changing temperatures should be expected.
- Some work may be performed outdoors or in mechanical and utility areas.
- The position requires standing, walking, bending, reaching, climbing and working from ladders or approved elevated-work equipment.
- Must be able to lift and move up to 50 pounds independently and assist with heavier items using appropriate lifting equipment or team-lifting methods.
- Required personal protective equipment may include safety footwear, safety glasses, hearing protection, respiratory protection and other task-specific PPE.
- Employees must comply with all machine-safety, lockout/tagout and company health and safety procedures.
