ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking a highly experienced Senior / Lead Metal Fabricator to join our prestigious client's team specializing in custom, high-end architectural and decorative metalwork.
This is not a production welding position. The ideal candidate is a well-rounded fabricator who can take ownership of projects with minimal supervision—from reviewing drawings and identifying potential fabrication issues through fabrication, site measurements, troubleshooting, and final installation.
Projects are predominantly custom metalwork for luxury, high-end residential environments, where precision, craftsmanship, appearance, and attention to detail are critical. We are looking for someone who can be trusted with a project and expected to figure out the best way to execute it rather than waiting to be instructed through every step. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead fabrication projects from initial drawings through completion and installation.
- Fabricate high-quality architectural and decorative metalwork using mild steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and brass.
- Perform high-level MIG and TIG welding.
- Complete precision fit-up, grinding, finishing, polishing, and metal preparation.
- Produce exceptionally clean, high-quality finished work suitable for luxury architectural applications.
- Read and accurately interpret detailed shop drawings.
- Understand dimensions, tolerances, angles, radiuses, bends, and complex assemblies.
- Independently conduct accurate site measurements.
- Identify site conditions that may affect fabrication or installation.
- Review measurements and shop drawings with the CAD technician before fabrication.
- Plan efficient fabrication sequences and determine the best approach to complete projects.
- Anticipate potential problems before materials are cut or fabrication begins.
- Troubleshoot fabrication and installation issues both in the shop and on active job sites.
- Make sound, real-time decisions when unexpected site conditions arise.
- Install architectural and decorative metalwork professionally on active construction sites.
- Understand mounting systems, anchors, blocking, substrates, and concealed fastening methods.
- Protect surrounding finishes while installing high-end finished metalwork.
- Coordinate with other trades when required.
- Communicate professionally with clients, designers, architects, site supervisors, and other trades.
- Clearly explain fabrication concerns, site conditions, and potential solutions.
- Maintain strong quality-control standards and exceptional attention to detail.
- Take ownership and responsibility for assigned projects without requiring constant supervision.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
The successful candidate will have:
- Extensive professional experience in architectural and/or decorative metal fabrication.
- Advanced fabrication skills with brass and stainless steel; experience with aluminum and mild steel is also required.
- Strong MIG and TIG welding capabilities.
- Excellent fit-up, grinding, finishing, polishing, and metal preparation skills.
- Strong ability to fabricate accurately from detailed drawings.
- Excellent understanding of measurements, tolerances, angles, radiuses, bends, and complex assemblies.
- Proven ability to work independently and take ownership of projects.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Experience working on active construction sites.
- Experience installing architectural metalwork.
- Ability to conduct accurate site measurements independently.
- Strong understanding of installation methods and construction-site conditions.
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Professional communication skills when dealing with clients, architects, designers, contractors, and other trades.
- Valid driver's licence is required.
- Own vehicle is considered an asset.
PARTICULARLY VALUABLE EXPERIENCE
Experience with brass and stainless steel architectural/decorative fabrication is highly desirable, as brass represents a significant portion of the company's work.
WHAT WE OFFER
- Full-time, ongoing employment with a small and established team.
- Monday–Friday schedule, generally 9:00 AM–5:00 PM.
- Flexible schedule: The employee can arrange an alternative schedule, such as: 7:30 AM–3:30 PM, 8:30 AM–4:30 PM
New employees generally start at approximately $55,000/year for the first three months while the company evaluates their actual capabilities, quality of work, productivity, and ability to operate independently. For the right person/ experienced person , there is significant potential for a substantially higher salary following the initial assessment period.
