We're looking for a Senior Buyer who will take ownership of key commodities and play a direct role in strategic sourcing, supplier negotiations, cost reduction and supply continuity.

What you'll be doing:
- Own the sourcing strategy for assigned commodities, including steel, sheet metal, aluminum, metals, glass and other direct materials
- Manage and be accountable for a significant annual purchasing spend
- Identify, qualify and develop new domestic and international suppliers
- Build relationships and negotiate directly with mills, service centres and third-party suppliers
- Lead RFQs, supplier negotiations, contract negotiations and strategic sourcing initiatives
- Negotiate pricing, payment terms, lead times, freight and long-term supply agreements
- Monitor commodity pricing, market trends, tariffs and global supply risks
- Develop strategies to mitigate cost increases, tariffs, supply disruptions and long lead times
- Analyze supplier quotes, market pricing and total landed costs to identify savings opportunities
- Manage day-to-day supplier relationships and resolve purchasing, delivery, quality and warranty issues
- Track supplier performance across cost, quality, delivery and service
- Partner with Engineering, Production, Planning and Quality to ensure uninterrupted material supply
- Maintain accurate purchasing, inventory and cost information using ERP systems and advanced Excel
What we're looking for:
- 5–7+ years of commodity buying / strategic sourcing experience within a manufacturing environment
- Proven experience managing significant annual purchasing spend
- Strong hands-on purchasing experience with steel, sheet metal, aluminum, metals and/or glass
- Experience purchasing directly from mills, service centres and/or third-party suppliers
- Proven experience owning commodities and developing sourcing strategies
- Experience managing domestic and international suppliers
- Strong background in supplier negotiations, RFQs, contracts and cost reduction
- Comfortable balancing strategic sourcing with hands-on, day-to-day purchasing
- Experience managing supplier issues, including quality and warranty claims
- Experience navigating tariffs, cross-border sourcing and changing commodity costs
- Strong understanding of commodity markets, pricing and supplier dynamics
- Advanced Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, formulas, reporting and data analysis
- ERP/MRP experience such as SAP, JD Edwards, Oracle or similar
- Strong analytical, negotiation, communication and problem-solving skills
- Experience working in a small to midsize manufacturing environment where you are expected to wear multiple hats is highly valued
International purchasing experience will be considered where the candidate can demonstrate strong commodity expertise, significant spend ownership and direct experience with mills, service centres or comparable suppliers.
