New Sarepta Playschool is a non-profit, parent-run organization offering a nurturing, play-based early childhood environment. Operated by a dedicated, volunteer parent board, we encourage curiosity, social growth, and emotional development in young learners. We are seeking a dedicated professional to join our community for a fixed term part-time contract position.
The Role
The Fixed Term Part-Time Educational Assistant reports directly to the classroom teacher and works for the parent board. The successful candidate will support early childhood programming and individual student needs for children aged 3 and 4 years old. This role requires a warm, energetic professional who understands early childhood milestones and thrives in partnership with our classroom team.
Key Responsibilities
- Instructional Support: Support the teacher in delivering and setting up a play-based, child-centered curriculum.
- Student Assistance: Provide direct, one-on-one or small-group assistance to support children with diverse learning, physical, emotional, or behavioural needs.
- Classroom Management: Assist the teacher in maintaining a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment.
- Daily Routines: Guide children through daily classroom routines, transitions, personal care, and social interactions.
- Classroom Cleaning: Clean and reset the classroom daily after class time alongside the teacher, including the rotating toy cleaning schedule.
- Events & Outings: Supervise students and ensure safety during educational field trips and community-focused special events throughout the school year.
- Teamwork: Collaborate closely with the classroom teacher to maintain smooth classroom operations and report student progress or observations directly to the teacher.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Education: Educational Assistant Certificate, Early Childhood Educator (ECE) certification minimum level one, or equivalent training preferred. If no certification is held at time of interview, proof of ECE level one registration is needed before the first day of school and must be completed within 6 months of hiring.
- First Aid: Current Child Care First Aid and CPR certification or proof of registration prior to the first day of school.
- Experience: Previous experience working with preschool-aged children or supporting diverse learning needs is considered a strong asset.
- Safety: Clear Criminal Record Check with a Vulnerable Sector Check (completed within the last 6 months).
Terms of Employment & Compensation
- Base Salary: Hourly wage is commensurate with education and experience.
- Probationary Period: This temporary position is subject to a successful three-month probationary period to ensure a mutual fit for the assistant and the school community.
