Job Summary:

The Support and Education Coordinator is responsible for planning, coordination, delivery, and administration of four weekly pre- and postnatal support and education groups in Burnaby and New Westminster. This role creates a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive environment for expectant and new mothers by facilitating and planning group sessions, providing evidence-informed education, and fostering meaningful peer connections to increase positive birth outcomes and connect women within their community.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Supports the objectives of the Pregnancy Outreach Program by using the established program criteria and practice standards, and guidelines when assessing participants’ needs and providing information, resources and support.
Determines and coordinates scheduling of topics and/or guest speakers and facilitators for four weekly pre and postnatal groups. Maintains up-to-date knowledge of community resources and liaises with relevant agencies, professionals, and the community to provide relevant program information to the participants.
Ensure programs are delivered in safe, inclusive environments.
Facilitates regular group sessions in relation to maternal/child health and wellness as needed.
Sends reminders to program participants about program topics and start time as needed.
Maintains an up-to-date record of program registrations, including client intake list and supports all group intakes coming off the waitlist.
Ensures all registration forms are completed, following up with clients for missing information and then uploading them into Teams.
Maintains an up-to-date record of program attendance, including record of clients’ unexcused and/or excused absences in ShareVision database, follows up with clients' program attendance as needed.
Submit weekly snacks and supply orders for the programs to manager after coordinating with program Dietitian.
Ensure snacks are prepared using proper food safety. Maintains an understanding of any client’s allergy requirements and uses cultural sensitivity when snack planning.
Supports program volunteers assigned to the program (i.e. how to prepare snacks, how to set up room, etc.)
Maintain health and safety standards. Clean and sanitize snack preparation areas and equipment with the help of volunteers.
Maintain inventory and order supplies as needed for both locations (plates, cutlery, napkin, dish soap, tissues, etc.).
Remind participants to use their Tomat card in every class when the Farmer Market coupon is active (July to Dec).
Distribute and gather client exit and quarterly surveys and submit them to the manager to upload them to ShareVision database.
Perform fire and earthquake drills quarterly and H&S internal inspections monthly.
Upholds confidentiality, cultural humility, and trauma-informed practice in all interactions. Establishes positive rapport with participants using a non-judgmental approach, relating to participants in a caring, positive, open, and culturally sensitive manner.
Maintains up-to-date and accurate signature list for distributed resources (i.e. bus tickets, and other coupons.) as needed.
Participates in team meetings and community events as required.
Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications:

A degree in social work, counselling, adult education or other relevant human services field, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
Two years’ experience in facilitating educational or similar groups to women dealing with parenting, violence, poverty, and various other multiple barriers.
Experience working in the community social service sector with demonstrated working knowledge of community-based programs and community support systems.
An understanding of cultural competency with an ability to be culturally sensitive, respectful, confidential, and caring when dealing with diverse values, beliefs, and lifestyles.
Knowledge of healthy pre and postnatal care (preferred).
Knowledge of infant and child growth and development (preferred).

Additional Information:

Valid Driver’s License and available vehicle.
Valid Insurance and Driver’s Abstract (for applicable mileage reimbursement).
No relevant criminal record.

Job Title: Support and Education Coordinator

Work Site Location(s): 7355 Canada Way, Burnaby / 613 Queens Avenue, New Westminster

Weekly Hours: 21 hours weekly / 7 hours daily Tuesday through Thursday

Wage: $27.33 - $29.84 (depending on relevant experience)

Benefits: Eligible for group benefits after successful probation period

Start Date: As soon as possible
