Summary of the role:
The UKC Athletics Department is seeking a dedicated and experienced individual to lead our women’s varsity rugby 7’s program as the Head Coach. The ideal candidate will possess a passion for rugby, a commitment to the development of student-athletes, and the ability to foster a positive team culture both on and off the court. This position offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of our student-athletes while contributing to the overall success of our athletic program.
Responsibilities and Expectations:
- Promote academic success, good sportsmanship, and character development.
- Communicate clearly and consistently regarding team expectations, accountability and feedback, fostering an environment of trust and openness.
- Co-create and sustain a positive, inclusive team culture with student athletes, including the development of shared team values and expectations.
- Plan and conduct regular practices, typically 3-4x weekly.
- Attend all regular-season competitions (4 tournament weekends) September 19 to October 24.
- Provide individualized instruction and feedback to student-athletes.
- Prepare plans and strategies for opponents, including scouting reports and player evaluations.
- Lead team meetings, film sessions, and other activities.
- Work with the Athletics Department to manage team logistics, scheduling, travel, equipment inventory, and budgeting. Collaborate with school administrators.
- Uphold all school and league policies, rules, and regulations.
- Develop and maintain a thoughtful recruitment and player development strategies.
- Develop and support fundraising initiatives and engage alumni with the Athletics Department.
- Monitor and support student athletes in their academic progress
- Recruit, supervise and support assistant coaching staff.
- Be available to work evenings and weekends during the academic year.
Education and Experience
- Post-secondary degree.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience coaching as an Assistant or Head Coach with a proven track record of success. Coaching experience at a post-secondary institution would be considered an asset. Previous experience coaching women’s sport considered an asset. Proof of NCCP Advancement Development Coach certification and a commitment to obtain NCCP Performance Coach certification upon hire.
- CPR/First Aid or willingness to obtain upon hire.
- Experience as a varsity athlete or working experience in an Athletics Department considered an asset.
