KMC specializes in high-performance alloys and friction materials from raw materials to finished products under one roof in Orillia, Canada. Manufacturing unique heat-resistant alloys and high-nickel/chrome alloys primarily for the petrochemical industries, Kubota leads the industry in quality and advanced technology. As per customer requirements, Kubota designs and casts centrifugal pipes and static castings of fittings, which are then machined, welded (Automatic, Semi-Automatic, Orbital & Manual), GTAW, GMAW, SMAW, followed by in-house NDT (RT, PT, VT), in-house DT, R&D lab, as well as hydro testing.
Summary:
Responsible for the final grinding and chipping of castings to meet engineering routing standards, ensuring compliance with safety and ISO standards. Utilizes grinding and chipping equipment to achieve the required surface finish on castings.

Work in a safe manner consistent with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and KMC policies and ensure work areas comply with proper housekeeping and safety procedures at all times

Wear all required PPE as per department and job function requirements

Operate all equipment and machinery according to established safety rules, SOPs, and at set standard rates

Maintain full product traceability as per ISO and department standards

Operate all hand-grinding and chipping equipment safely, following established safety procedures, wearing appropriate PPE such as gloves and eye protection, and ensuring the equipment is in good working condition before cleaning castings

Ensure that all hand-grinders are properly assembled and calibrated before use; select the correct tools and consumables, such as grinding discs or wheels suited to each specific task, and verify compatibility; follow manufacturer guidelines to set up each grinder accurately for optimal performance and safety

Utilize LN software that is specifically tailored to accommodate the unique requirements of each job function as needed

Accurately and consistently fill out and maintain safety logs, ensuring all entries are complete, up-to-date, and adhere to established safety protocols

Perform correct grinding practices and finishes in accordance with the Hand Grind Training Record

Ensure precise documentation and reporting of all necessary information on operator work sheets

Promptly inform the supervisor of any defective equipment or parts, providing detailed descriptions of the issues observed to facilitate timely repairs

Maintain an average efficiency of at least 80% in the production of parts per shift, calculated over a continuous 6-month period to ensure sustained performance and consistency

Consistently meet the specified grinding time requirements established by the supervisor to ensure production deadlines are maintained, and quality standards are upheld

Properly and safely blend out steps on bevels by gradually feathering the edges, ensuring smooth and seamless transitions between surfaces

Identify obvious surface defects that require removal through grinding

Consistently ensure that all work is performed with accurate craftsmanship and attention to detail, adhering to established standards and best practices

Physical / Psychological Demands & Working Conditions

2-week cycle shift rotation required, including days, nights and afternoons. 40-hour work week

Standing and walking for prolonged periods

Manual dexterity for handling small parts and tools

Lifting and moving equipment/materials (up too 25-50)

Exposure to noise, dust and fluctuating temperatures (requires PPE)

High levels of concentrations and focus.
