Role Overview
The Community Engagement and Communications Manager supports grassroots fundraising, community giving, and external communications for The Sharing Place. This role enables broad participation from individuals, community groups, and local partners, and ensures our impact and values are communicated clearly and respectfully.

Key Responsibilities
Community Giving and Engagement
- Work with third-party event organizers to ensure they have the support and resources they need, including signage and donation materials.
- Assist with community fundraising initiatives, donation drives, and seasonal campaigns.
- Plan and support community-facing events such as the annual Sharing Place Open House.
- Maintain relationships with community groups, schools, service clubs, and local businesses involved in grassroots fundraising.
- Manage corporate volunteer visits, tours, and community giving opportunities in collaboration with the Development Manager and internal teams.
- Represent The Sharing Place at community events as needed and where appropriate, such as fundraising events, cheque presentations, and community gatherings hosted by partner organizations or elected officials, including occasional evenings and weekends.
Communications
- Manage social media planning, content creation, scheduling, and posting.
- Maintain media relationships as needed with local outlets, including digital, print, and broadcast.
- Update website content to keep it current, including program stats, new documents, media stories, event announcements, closures, and seasonal messaging.
- Help share campaign materials and messaging from trusted sector partners, such as Food Banks Canada and Feed Ontario, to support broader food security advocacy.
In-Kind Giving and Community Food Donations
- Support the maintenance of relationships with local farmers, growers, and food recovery partners
- Act as the main contact for community food/donation drives and provide appropriate recognition and thank-you communications.
- Support intake and tracking for in-kind donation acknowledgements and receipts, working with Finance.
- Provide recognition and donor communications for major food recovery partners, with operational coordination remaining with the Operations team.
Internal Communications and Creative Support
- Create signage and visual materials for programs, events, and campaigns.
- Support internal initiatives such as seasonal campaigns, posters, newsletters, and donor recognition materials.
- Assist with coordination of summer students or short-term community initiatives, when applicable.
Skills and Experience
Technical Skills
- Strong written communication skills, with the ability to write clearly, concisely, and adaptably across formats and audiences.
- Experience managing social media platforms and website content.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (particularly Excel), Canva, and WordPress/Elementor or equivalent website management experience.
- An eye for design and visual presentation, with comfort creating simple, polished materials that align with our brand guidelines.
Interpersonal and Organizational Skills
- Exceptional relationship-building skills, with the ability to warmly welcome new faces, establish trust quickly, and engage with professionalism and empathy.
- Understanding of, or willingness to learn about, food insecurity and poverty, with the ability to speak about these issues clearly, respectfully, and without judgment.
- Comfortable in a dynamic, mission-driven environment where priorities shift and new opportunities emerge.
- Able to manage competing priorities and keep multiple workstreams moving forward simultaneously.
- Comfortable speaking in front of small community groups or leading tours through our facility.
Experience and Requirements
- Minimum 5 years experience in fundraising, communications and/or marketing
- Access to a reliable vehicle is required

Location: In Person | Some evenings and weekends required for community events
