Prerequisites

Grade 12 diploma/GED required; post-graduate certificate or diploma in Human Resources Management, Disability Management, Occupational Health & Safety, or a related field considered an asset.
3+ years of experience in disability management, WSIB administration, claims management, health and safety, human resources, or a related environment.
Working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, WSIA, WSIB policies and procedures, and applicable legislation.
Working knowledge of Short-Term Disability (STD) processes, benefit plans, medical documentation, and absence management practices.
Experience managing occupational and non-occupational disability claims and coordinating return to work and accommodation plans.
Strong understanding of disability management, accommodation, and return to work principles.
Ability to handle confidential medical and employee information with a high degree of discretion and professionalism.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interact effectively with employees, managers, medical professionals, insurers, WSIB, and other stakeholders.
Highly organized with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Strong customer service focus and commitment to supporting employees through the claims and return-to-work process.
Strong leadership, communication, conflict resolution, and relationship management skills.
Advanced verbal and written communication skills, with strong computer skills.
Proactive approach with effective problem-solving, organization, and time management skills.
Ability to work a flexible work schedule providing support to a three-shift operation and multiple TFT locations.
Ability and willingness to travel between TFT locations as required.

General Responsibility

Manage and coordinate TFT's occupational and non-occupational disability and claims management programs across all TFT locations.
Act as the primary corporate contact for WSIB, Short-Term Disability (STD), workplace injury, non-occupational disability, accommodation, and return to work matters.
Provide consistent claims and disability management practices across all TFT locations.
Act as a resource to local HR, Health & Safety teams, employees, supervisors, and managers regarding claims, disability, accommodation, and return to work matters.
Manage communication and coordination with WSIB, insurance providers, third-party administrators, medical professionals, employees, and other stakeholders.
Stay current on changes to WSIB requirements, occupational health and safety legislation, disability management practices, benefit plan requirements, and applicable employment legislation.
Review and recommend changes to corporate policies, procedures, and processes related to claims, disability management, accommodation, and return to work.
Identify trends and opportunities to improve claims management, reduce lost time, support early and safe return to work, and improve overall disability outcomes.
Maintain familiarity with current resources, best practices, materials, and training techniques relevant to disability and claims management.
Support the Health & Safety team and provide back-up support for Health & Safety initiatives as required.
Promote positive employee relations and a culture of cooperation, support, and accountability.
Perform other duties as required.

Direct Responsibilities

WSIB / Occupational Claims

Manage the full cycle of WSIB claims for all TFT locations, including claim reporting, documentation, follow-up, correspondence, decisions, and closure.
Ensure WSIB claims are reported accurately and within legislated timelines.
Monitor claims from initial reporting through resolution and maintain regular follow-up with WSIB and all relevant stakeholders.
Review WSIB decisions and identify opportunities for clarification, reconsideration, or follow-up where appropriate.
Coordinate medical and functional abilities information required to support claims management and return to work.
Monitor lost-time claims, modified work, claim status, costs, and other relevant information.
Maintain accurate, complete, and confidential WSIB records.
Provide claims reporting and updates to HR leadership and management as required.
Identify claims trends and opportunities to reduce workplace injuries, lost time, and claim costs.

Short-Term Disability / Non-Occupational Claims

Manage the full cycle of Short-Term Disability (STD) claims across all TFT locations, from initial notification through recovery and return to work.
Act as the primary corporate contact for employees and managers throughout the STD process.
Coordinate STD claims and required documentation with the applicable insurance provider and/or third-party administrator.
Monitor claim status, medical documentation, expected return to work dates, and benefit timelines.
Follow up on outstanding documentation and ensure claims are progressing appropriately.
Maintain accurate and confidential STD and disability records.
Identify cases requiring additional intervention, accommodation, escalation, or transition to other disability benefits.
Ensure STD claims are administered consistently with TFT policies, benefit plan requirements, and applicable legislation.
Provide regular updates to HR and appropriate management while maintaining employee medical confidentiality.

Return to Work & Accommodation

Lead TFT's corporate return to work program across all locations for occupational and non-occupational claims.
Develop and coordinate individualized return to work and accommodation plans based on functional abilities and medical restrictions.
Work with employees, managers, local HR, Health & Safety, WSIB, insurers, and medical professionals to facilitate safe and timely returns to work.
Monitor modified work and accommodation arrangements and make adjustments as restrictions or circumstances change.
Conduct regular case reviews and follow-ups to ensure return to work plans remain appropriate and sustainable.
Provide guidance and support to local HR and managers regarding restrictions, modified work, accommodation, and return to work requirements.
Maintain appropriate documentation throughout the return to work and accommodation process.
Support compliance with applicable accommodation and human rights requirements.
Escalate complex or high-risk cases to the Director of Human Resources as required.

Reporting & Continuous Improvement

Maintain centralized claims and disability management records for all TFT locations.
Prepare regular reports on WSIB, STD, lost-time, modified work, claims activity, and return to work outcomes.
Monitor claims trends by location, type, duration, and other relevant measures.
Identify opportunities to improve claims outcomes, reduce costs, and minimize lost time.
Establish consistent processes and practices across all TFT locations.
Provide training and guidance to local HR and management teams on claims, disability, accommodation, and return to work processes.

Health & Safety Support

Support the Health & Safety team with injury prevention and workplace safety initiatives.
Participate as a member of the Joint Health and Safety Committee and support safety initiatives and required changes.
Provide claims and disability trend information to support injury prevention initiatives.
Assist with the development of training and materials related to injury prevention, disability management, accommodation, and return to work.
Assist with monthly safety talks, workplace inspections, and other Health & Safety initiatives as required.
