Join an established association that represents 30 minority-language community newspapers across Quebec. The Quebec Community Newspapers Association (QCNA) is dedicated to the professional and economic development of English community newspapers serving minority communities across the province.
QCNA is recognized as the official representative of Quebec’s English-language community newspapers by federal and provincial governments, the public, and the broader media ecosystem. Through advocacy, partnerships, and strategic initiatives, QCNA works to strengthen the long-term sustainability and relevance of local journalism.
We are seeking a driven early-career professional who believes in the importance and future of local journalism. This role is focused on building relationships, supporting the financial sustainability of community newspapers, and connecting organizations across Quebec with trusted local media.
This is not a content creation role. It is a hands-on position centered on outreach, partnerships, and revenue development that directly supports the viability of English-language community news.
We are hiring for a full-time position through the 2026–2027 Internship Program in Official Languages Minority Community Media. The duration of the position is a minimum of 6 months, with the possibility of extension to June, 2027. The rate of pay is $23/hour for 35 hours per week. The position is based in Gatineau, QC, although the majority of work can be done remotely.
Responsibilities include:
- Build and maintain relationships with community organizations, businesses, and institutional partners across Quebec
- Develop and execute advertising and outreach campaigns that support the sustainability of QCNA member newspapers
- Identify client needs and create tailored media solutions using community newspaper platforms
- Actively contribute to revenue generation through client engagement, campaign development, and follow-through
- Represent QCNA and its members in meetings, presentations, and events
- Develop long-term partnerships that strengthen the visibility and value of local media
- Oversee billing, invoicing, and campaign tracking
- Support sponsorship development and partnership opportunities for QCNA initiatives
- Coordinate and support key activities including the Better Newspaper Competition, AGM, and Awards Gala
- Support QCNA’s website and digital presence as a practical tool for members and partners
- Provide general support to the Executive Director and Program Manager in ongoing QCNA activities
Skills and qualifications:
- Demonstrated interest in journalism, media, or community development
- Strong communication and presentation skills, with confidence in client-facing situations
- Comfort with outreach, relationship-building, and developing professional connections
- Interest in the business and sustainability side of media, including revenue generation
- Proactive and results-oriented, with a strong sense of ownership and accountability
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
- Problem-solving mindset with the ability to simplify complex ideas into clear proposals
- Experience supporting projects, partnerships, or events is an asset
- Customer service and relationship management skills
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) and Google Workspace
- Willingness to learn QuickBooks Online for estimates and invoicing
- Demonstrated mastery of English (spoken and written) and ability to communicate in French (spoken and written)
- Experience working with minority communities is an asset

Program criteria:
You must meet the following criteria to apply:
- Hold a diploma or degree from a recognized secondary or post-secondary institution
- Be 35 years old or younger on the start date of the internship
- Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident
- Be unemployed or underemployed
