Position Overview
Heartland Feeds is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Livestock Nutrition Field Technician to support our Nutrition Services team and livestock producer clients. This role serves as a key link between the field, laboratory, nutrition consultants and producers. Primary responsibilities involve collecting and managing feed and forage samples and supporting nutrition consulting activities. Utilizing technical tools, data collection and management, customer relations will be involved. Although experience and knowledge of livestock nutrition and the broader livestock industry is required, skill-specific training will be provided. The ideal candidate may receive training in, and opportunity to execute, ration formulation, economic analysis, and varying finer aspects of livestock nutrition. The position is ideal for recent graduates, or individuals wishing to gain experience and further knowledge in the nutrition industry.

Key Responsibilities
Feed and Forage Sampling
· Collect feed (silage, cut forage, grain, commodity), water, TMR samples from customer farms and feed facilities.
· Follow established protocols to ensure representative and accurate samples.
· Prepare, label, document, and submit samples for laboratory analysis.
· Maintain sample records and ensure timely communication of results to Nutrition Consultants.
· Assist with interpretation and organization of laboratory results.
Nutrition Consultant Support
· Provide technical and administrative support to Heartland Feeds Nutrition Consultants.
· Gather production, feeding, and management data required for nutrition program development.
· Support implementation and monitoring of livestock nutrition programs.
· Assist with on-farm assessments, feed audits, ration evaluations, nutritional investigations, and troubleshooting when applicable.
· Coordinate scheduling and logistics for customer visits, sampling and delivery activities.
Customer Service and Producer Relations
· Build positive relationships with livestock producers and industry partners. Represent Heartland Feeds professionally at farms, industry events, and customer meetings.
· Serve as a technical resource for feed sampling procedures and data collection processes.
· Maintain regular communication with customers regarding sampling schedules, laboratory submissions, and follow-up activities.
Data Management/Reporting
· Follow all quality assurance protocols required for feed sampling, and in company SOPs.
· Prepare reports for nutrition consultants and management as required.
· Monitor KPIs (key performance indicators) related to feed quality and nutrition services
Qualifications:
Education
· Diploma or Degree in Animal Science, Agriculture, Livestock Production, Agricultural technology or a related field.
· Equivalent combination of education and practical livestock experience may be considered.
Experience
· Experience with beef, dairy, small ruminants, or other livestock is preferred.
· Experience collecting feed, forage, or other agricultural samples is an asset.
· Familiarity with livestock nutrition, feed analysis, ration formulation or farm management software, data collection systems, or other agricultural technology are all assets.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
· Understanding of livestock nutrition concepts.
· Strong attention to detail and commitment to accurate data collection
· Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with ability to manage multiple priorities
· Ability to work independently and within team, in field and office environments
· Strong written and verbal communication skills.
· Proficiency with Microsoft office and digital data management tools.
· Ability to learn and apply emerging agricultural technologies
Physical Requirements
· Comfortable working around livestock and agricultural production environments.
· Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
· Ability to lift up to 25kg (55lbs)
· Ability to travel regularly to farms and customer locations.
Travel Requirements
· Frequent travel within the assigned territory
· Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
· Occasional overnight travel may be required
